I am thinking about doing my B test this year (not til later in the year though!), I got given the syllabus cards for both riding and stable management after passing C+ last year, but wanted to know...
Do you have to jump someone elses horse or just ride it on the flat?
How high do you have to jump?
Would you have to jump someone elses horse at this height?

I know it will vary a lot depending on the examiner etc, but just wanted a rough idea as it doesn't specify on the cards.

Thanks!

Hello, i am doing the riding this year, did my horse and pony care last year. I was told that you warm up your own horse - to jump, then you all swap and jump a course on one horse but not your own - i think its about 3' - 3'3" -depends, then you all do the flatwork, you will probably ride 2 more, depending on how many of you there are, then take your own horse out onto xc, but not many fences. hope this helps, might just give u a rough idea. Hannah.

height of the fences is about 3'3, its usually a course but you can use it as a schooling round, ie, you can circle or repeat a fence if you feel it didnt go well.

you are required to ride someone elses horse on the flat, and it is up to the examiner whether they want you to jump it.

i think the maximum height is 3', but when i took it, they never put anything over 2'6"

ask your PC instructor for a copy of the syllabus that they teach from for the B test for more information, or get one off the PC website.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions, just ask me.

Area 7 does only ride other person horse on the flat... the SJ are about 3ft

we have Area days were you train in the area plus we do monthly training all year round to set you up, plus a B test camp just before the test.

Maybe ring/email your Chief Instructor and asked for more details etc

Get lots of experience of other horses and start to talk about what you feel , show you understand tempo and rhythm and balanceand straightness, do not waffle on or dig yourself a hole. You must assess the horse you are given to ride not just make up things. Sit in with some dressage judges to get an eye for what is right.
Good luck get lots of training.

We had to jump other peoples horses round the sj's. About 3 foot 3. our chief instructor told me not to do it on my pony - 14.2hh- as she was tricky to jump and it wouldn't be fair on other people. Hired a horse from the centre for the test.

Thanks for all the info everyone

I will be doing lots of training soon which will involve riding other people's horses, teaching and generally assessing the horse and rider. It's not B test specific, but only people who have done C+ are allowed to do it. I will also be doing a lot of B test sepcific training before obviously, as I know it's a lot harder than C+ level.
It's not until end of August so I will be preparing a lot over the summer holidays.

when i did it, you only rode each others horses for the flat work, and jumped your own
the jumps were around 3ft, but the examiners were quiet kind and put down certain bogey fences.
i wouldnt worry about jumping or riding other peoples horses though, if you do the preparation for the test youll be fine

i went on the day only to do the 'care' part as my horse was injured, ended up being shoved on an unknown horse and told to get on with it by my DC

best of luck
