Pony club camp - will studs complicate things

My horse is off to pony club camp with the girl who rides him in 3 weeks. I doubt very much he will be jumping over 2"6 however I was wondering if it would be worth showing her how to use studs just to be careful?

I dont want him slipping and buggering himself.

I think it may be worth showing her but i would only put them in if really really wet!. x

I would show her, she will get help and advice if she needs to put them in when there x

Really depends on the set up of the camp. At the one I taught at last year they had to hack half a mile down a lane to get to the riding fields. It was a total nightmare when some of the older kids wanted their horses studdded!!!! Most of the kids (even the older ones) weren't terrbily capable of getting the studs into highly excited horses, so us instructors ended up doing it.

Show her how to do it, but unless you REALLY REALLY want your horse to have them, maybe say it's not necessary?

Show her but tbh at camp time it pretty tight and studs are such a pain, she will need to practice!!

Ok well I will get studs holes in his shoes, send her off with the kit, and show her what to do just in case. I am sure they will help her if she gets stuck. They are actually going to Munsted which means no hacking to the sj/xc/dressage as it is all fairly central

Whether the instructor will help or not depends on the PC. At our last camp anyone who wanted studs had to be able to do them without assistance or do without. As my daughter was only 11 and ned leans on any human obliging enough to pick his foot up for him I came up to stud him for competition day. For training it isn't so much of a problem as it is more stop start so the horses don't build up so much speed on the turns. I full expect to be studding myself this time too if I think it necessary.

All Pony Clubs are different but at our Senior Camp there are experienced parents helping on the yard who can help put studs in if necessary, although the campers are encouraged to do it themselves if at all possible. (When it was my turn to do this I actually tried to delegate the task to the Sprog as much as possible because I hate doing studs, LOL!)

i would show her just incase but tell the instrctors as the always know best

If the ground is as hard where you are, as it is near us then studs could cause damage to the horses legs if used incorrectly by young kids
