Hiya
Am going to a PC ODE this weekend (I'm not a PC member but it's open to non-members), just having a read through the lit on that PC's website in terms of dress code etc- and for dressage, it says 'whips may be carried in the test'.
Was just wondering if this only applies to 'pure' PC dressage, as I was under the impression that whips weren't allowed for the eventing tests (and have dropped my whip before the dressage on several occasions believing I had no choice but to go without! ;) )
Would be great if someone could clarify this for me.
Thanks

Whips aren't allowed in pure in any level but I'm pretty sure in eventing novice level whips are allowed, I'll double check rules though I was just reading stressage rules the other day.

I've never risked it personally as there often seems to be a bit of a debate as to weather you are allowed them or not and a friend was eliminated then later told she wasnt after schooling round the jumping. You are allowed spurs though.

You can carry a whip in pure dressage. Eventing wise, you can carry a whip in the dressage up to and including Level 3/Novice not allowed at Level 4 or Level 5. :)

The rules read that a whip is allowed at levels 1-3 but not for 4 & 5, the higher level ODEs, it can be of any length so either a schooling or jumping one. I would still check on the day just to make sure as some branches seem to have varying views in my experience of what tack is permitted and I have seen some interesting equipment being allowed.

Spurs are not allowed unless rider has their B test or permission of DC, even non members may be questioned on this and made to feel awkward when cross examined in the tack inspection if they are being very officious.

Great, thanks everyone...schedule doesn't actually specify what level the class is but at 85cm, I'm assuming that's...3?
(Sorry, like I say am not a PC member so no idea about these things :D )

I will check on the day just in case. :) Thanks all

Ah, really? That's a bit scary! Have worn spurs before and not been questioned...maybe I was lucky!? Ooer

85 is between 2 and 3 I think 2 is 75cm and 3 is 90cm so I would definatly ask to make sure.

be positive - I'm fairly sure they cant do any thing if your not a pc member even if some of the tack checkers do like to think they are the law ;)

You're right they cant do anything but they can get a rider flustered with their tack checks just as they are about to do a dressage test, less of a problem for an adult but I have seen kids almost in tears as they try to argue if they are not PC members.

Now that they are very good at  and not believeing how old you are and arguing with you about it

I know you can use a whip in level 3 (90cm) eventing dressage, as long as its black - daughter got pulled for a purple one the other week. Not sure about spurs for non pc members best to ring & check although I would have thought they were allowed xx
