Can any of you showing experts out there tell me what the judge is looking for in a pony club pony class and what tack they should be wearing - are flash nosebands allowed and what bits are acceptable ? Just a bit confused as there seems to be differing opinions so wondered if someone could direct me to a definitive set of rules? Just want to get it right before I send daughter and pony out again !

There is some info on these classes here:

http://www.theshowring.info/riding club.htm

Unfortunately, there are usually no 'definitive rules' unless you are doing the Marriages' classes where their rules are quite specific.

My daughter's pony has always been very successful in Pony Club Pony classes, and she competes in a snaffle bridle with flash noseband.

If I was judging a PC Pony class I would be looking for a calm, well-mannered, obedient pony who behaves well in company, works in a nice soft outline without the rider having to seesaw on the reins, and then jumps sensibly over a couple of fences. I would expect to see them in a dressage-legal snaffle, but wouldn't object to a flash or drop noseband.

PC Pony classes tend to be a bit of a world of their own, and as far as I'm aware, there are no set rules unless they are set by the show themselves - I've seen all sorts!

Your normal PC tack is fine - ideally you wouldn't want a jumping saddle as it's a bit forward cut. I'd say any suitable bit, one in which the pony goes well and is controlled; I might be tempted to shy away from big gags though as in this class they are looking for a safe pony club pony suitable for all PC activties and a gag or something very strong tends to say "I'll run away with you if you take me XC." As long as what you have is safe and (most importantly) clean then you'll be fine. As for a flash - it'd be neater and technically more correct without one, however as there is usually a jump or two in PC Pony I really don't think it'll matter too much (I've seen plenty of flashes).

Really glad you asked this question....i was just about to post exactly the same myself!!

Got my new pony after a 7 year break in march so am looking to take him to some shows this summer!! But have literally no idea anymore what the classes entail!

Mine is 14.2hh so would i need to go in the 14.2hh and under or 14.2hh and over?? I am 24 years old not sure if that makes a difference?
