The pony that is.

I know Hannah has to wear her jacket and PC tie etc but I forgot to ask if the pony needs to be plaited. Any ideas?

It's a "minis and novices fun day" so not a competition.

Phew......I'm not great when it comes to plaits, hence I pull tails. More to the point I have absolutely no idea where to start with this....

With lots of brushing is mane should lay flat!! you can always put it into sections and work with that, that's the easiest method for me!

I'm not in PC but as far as I know you don't have to plait for rallies, only for competitions. But if you want to you can.

Hopefully you shouldn't have to plait it for this occasion but it should be fun when you do!

Misty's mane is a nightmare too if it make you feel any better. Although it does lie flat I have to pull it and pull it and pull it to get it thin enough to make plaits that don't look like tennis balls, and even then have to put hundreds in.

What I would suggest is to put some sort of hood on for a couple of days before to get the mane lying flatter. I use a product called (I think) QuickBraid to hold the plaits in place, but apparently setting lotion is often as good!

It's brushed and brushed and brushed and it never lies flat, not even when wet! He's a punk rocking pony! I reckon I'll find some tattoos on him somewhere too.

Where do you thin your mane? (well not YOUR mane but you get what I mean)>

Do you do it on the underside or in the middle? I'm wary of the amount of regrowth I'll have as the pulled bits come back, especially given how much I will have to thin it.

It's so wayward it's mad!

I was taught to start at the bottom, have a small section of mane, backcomb and pull.If you need to thin it more repeat in the middle.

I do it from the underneath. When I get the pulled hairs regrowing then I pull them as well. Because the hairs are short they are difficult to get by hand but I have a product called a DualGrooma that grabs them! Don't think they are available to buy any more but pliers would probably do the job!

Nope I never plait for rallies etc, usually just wear a shirt tie and PC jumper. If I were you I would plait Oliver's main over and leave the plaits in to try and get it to lie on the right side.

Not in our branch we don't and our DC is a stickler for turnout too. Here they like the kids appropriately dressed in beige-y coloured jods and generally clean all over, and clean and tidy ponies and tack.

Good luck in taming that mane!!!

Tried that too and it still stuck up with the plaits looking like darts sticking out of the top of his mane.

It only lies flat if I let it grow really long, and then it's too long to plait unless I have golf balls for plaits.

I'm so rubbish at plaiting anyway, that anything other than a straight forward mane really throws me.

In my pony club, we don't have to plait for rallies but have a good turnout and look clean. Don't worry- i've taken my ned to loads of stuff unplaited and his mane is very wild and all over the place!!!
