was at gatcombe today and we saw loads of pony club members riding around on thier ponies they had rosettes attatched to them sying that they were pc members
just wondering if anyone knew what they were doing and if so how you can go as it looked quite fun :)

It was always my dream to do this (would still love to tbh) they ride from fence to fence and get the sheets from the fence judges with the scores on them.. (ie who jumped the fence and who didn't)

Blitz

well as horses go round the fence judges on the xc write down details of each horse, whether they jump clear or not and any refusals or eliminations. the pony club then ride around on horseback to collect these slips.

some events use people on foot or bikes.

You would need to join that particular Pony Club branch, I reckon. Not sure if they only use one local branch, or several. You would also need a very well behaved pony, and as it is probably a popular event to help at, you would have to be an active member of the branch as well, ie you would have to attend rallies, help at a few events etc.

Are you the right age to join pony club?

aww thats not fair my pony club is in the same area as the one at minchinhampton (which is the nearest one) do you think that counts
and yes i am the right age for pony club espcailly as i am in it !ive jst turned 16 :)

Why not ask your DC? Maybe they have guests from other pc's, I don't know how it works, but these things are always done the way they have been done for the last 100 years, so it's a case of doing some detective work. If you live nearby, that must help!

Write to the organisers to find out which branch they use. Pony Club doesn't like its members to move branches, but it might be possible!

If you're within the area, you'd also be in the same area for Badminton as they use mouted score collectors too

well i will see and ask around... well they have some 2 * BE just down the road from me maybe they will do mounted score collecting there next year especailly as we know one of the organisers :D

With Badminton I'm pretty sure they use the local pony clubs in rotation. Our Riding Club was asked to help with the grassroots this year. unfortunately our girls had only just turned 5 and we though it might blow her brains with everything going on around her. I should imagine Gatcombe will do the same - use local clubs.

They normally just use the berkely hunt for score collecting I have never heard of other pony clubs doing it but perhaps if you asked your DC about it they would be able to find out if you could do it. I would want to do it but my horse would just go nuts at somewhere like Gatcombe or Badminton :p

it was and usually is the beaufort pony club that did the score collecting. i was in Minchinhampton pony club and we always did the smaller gatcombe's in the autumn and spring on the sunday, stroud pony club would do the saturday, and then the beaufort always do the big gatcombe.

aww thats a shame never mind maybe i will ask our friend about the eventing down the road see if they do it
thanks everyone x
