Hi,

My 8year old pony has a really dry cough, they are living out at mo sometimes they stand in wen very hot or rainy. She is stripped grazed as she can get fat and is only having handfull of happyhoof. She has had cough for just under a week and i have noticed she sounds a bit wheezy i have been giving her benylin which has'nt made much difference. she is not coughing constantly she has no temperature, discharge and otherwise seems fine and my others are ok...Anyone any ideas/recommendations please..
Thanks

maybe a pollen allergy try her on equimins power booster it is a cough medicine and a dicongestioned try that for a couple of days if no better call the vet!

Sunny gets a dry cough every summer - starts in Jume and ends in September. It doesn't respond to antibiotics and I'm happy to agree with my vet that it's almost certainly an allergy to tree pollen. I've just started him on Pollinex but it's too early to say if it makes a difference. If this is the first time your ponio has had a summer cough, and especially if she's wheezy, it might be worth ringing the vet. Any other neds on your yard coughing? If it's a bacterial infection, it should respond to antibx but if it's viral you just have to wait it out. If it gets really bad, vet will endoscope and do a lung wash but I turned that down for Sunny as too invasive for a self limiting allergy.

Ellie sometimes coughs when the air is really dry as we have had lately and there has been a lot of dust in the air. I commented on the cough the other week to her owner who said it was caused by the dust. If she coughs a lot we give her a day in off the grass and it seems to settle it down

could be allergy induced COPD which i had a pony with. vet will prescribe ventripulmin (SP?) granules. with my pony it worked a treat and only used it during times of the year when he began to cough.
