Hi All,

Haven't been on in a while but really wanted to share this experience with everyone and ask if anyone else had heard anything like it.

So the other day I went out into the field to bring my Belle in and all the horses and ponies were lying down. (not on their sides - upright)
I walked up to Belle and sat beside her (next to where her hooves were) and scratched her on her special itchy spot. I must of been sat there for 10/15 minutes when her eyes started to close, she was obviously fighting to stay awake but they kept on closing. Then her head began to drop and her chin hit the floor, this woke her up briefly, but again she drifted off to sleep.

As she could no longer fight it she rolled onto her side and fell asleep. :)

Safety first and everything so I moved away from her hooves in case she suddenly woke up and spooked and sat behind her back.

While sitting behind her back I laid across her belly and listened to her breath while she slept. I must of been there for maybe 10 minutes when her legs began to move and she made the cutest little noises! :p
(just like a sleeping dog)

She actually woke her self up moving and I moved to her other side again as she sat up.
Again I scratched her.
Again she resisted falling asleep.
Again she fell sleep.
Again I moved behind her to lay with her.

She must of slept for only 5 or so minutes this time. But again she made such cute squeaking noises and little whinnies and her legs were twitching and moving. :)

I must say listening to my little rescue baby dream as she allowed me to lay my head on her as she slept was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

A very large fox also ran passed 3 feet away from me!!

This may not seem like a lot to some other horse owners.
However Belle (Tabula Rasa) is a rescue.
I have owned her since she was rescued at 14 months old.
Despite being from a 14h NF mare and a 14.3 NFxCob she was so malnourished while being carried and as a foal that she will never make much of a height.
At 2 years old she is bum high at 12.2. So we shall see.
But almost a year ago she was wild, rearing, hated children and COULD NOT be touched. So this is a big thing :D

Thanks for listening to me rant!

What a magical moment :) I've only seen a horse dreaming once in thirty odd years of being around them. I was checking a suspected colic case every half hour throughout the night when I saw his stable mate flat out asleep, legs stretched out moving like a dog does when it's dreaming. Very cute.
