Pony entered in Britains got Talent

No worse than a horse jumping in an arena full of spectators, flashbulbs going off, applause, people eating their dinner ringside etc, surely?
If she can cope with the distraction, why not?

They have done a controlled dry run where the pony was not phased by the noise or audience therefore I don't see the issue considering what the talent is!

My old shetland (rip the little fella) did two runs "pulling" (aka standing infront of) Cinderellas coach, which was a big production running for several weeks (obviously over xmas period!) in a proper opera house theatre back in Jersey. (think decent Westend stage sized theatre). He was never phased by it and infact loved the attention (and the bucket loads of carrots for standing still).

Never once was he stressed or worried and trust me as a shetland he told you if he wasn't enjoying himself normally by towing you in the other direction but he loved it.

Why shouldnt they have their 5 mins of fame, clever little buggers they are,may make people realise horses are far from as stupid as they thought they were(non horsey folks that watch it

I used to know someone who provided 'Pantomime Ponies', she had 6 beautiful 'white' shetlands - they were on stage most nights during the panto season(usually pulling Cinderella's coach). I see no problem with it. I bet most of you don't know that the mascot for the Shetland Grand National at Olympia(in recent times it is a different foal/yearling every year) goes up to the boxes in the lift and collects money for Great Ormond Street.....Shetlands are just versatile like that.

The RS just around the corner from us are apparently the world's largest supplier of pantomime ponies - they have fields of white ones and they either live right next to the M4 or near a field where they do paintball. Either way they're either tone deaf or pretty used to noise before they're trained up to go on stage and pull the carriages. I don't have an issue if the pony is so clearly enjoying itself it has to be bribed to go off stage - IME Shetlands don't do anything they don't want to, I remember the 2 (Zebedee & Geronimo) at the RS when I was young, stubborn little things so glad I was too big to have to ride them.

Why do you feel unhappy about the situation. My miniature horse has been on tv and stage before and loves it.When I went down to london to appear on this morning with Fern Brittton and Philp scolfied,I was being micked up and Jezabell was being held by one of the staff,as soon as she saw the studio lights she was of,the poor woeman shouted quitely how do you stop her.It would have been so funny if Jezabell appeared on set before her time with a member of the staff hanging on for dear life.Don,t be boring animals need a life too you know, how would feel if you were not allowed to do what you enjoyed.

Oh now I want a shetland even more!

Also, it'll be good if it raises awareness for the sanctuary she comes from - if she gets famous* they will probably be able to do more to help animals.

Everybody wins!

*By "famous" I obviously mean "a five second slot at the end of the news in the lighthearted section", not platinum albums.

Why not? If it isn't bothered by it I don't see a problem with it!

you're thinking of Clever Hans! My mum used to tell me about him and how he could count. My dad then ruined it by telling me how he did it!

I thought someone would have gone on Britains got talent doing like a musical drill ride or something. I know it would be impossible on the stage, but sure they would be a way round that.
