My pony is on box rest for a check ligament strain but it seems other bits of her are falling apart:
The central sulcis on her OF has gone soft and crumbly despite me religiously picking out her hooves.
She is getting cracks/sores come up on her hind pasterns (worse on her white leg)
I'm cleaning out the frog and spraying with hypocare, I'm slapping sudocrem on the sores on her pasterns.
She has always had dry, thickened skin on her pasterns and I'm wondering if it's drying out and cracking.
I was thinking of adding some oil to her feed to moisturise from within but as she isn't working she is on a calorie controlled diet. (Any suggestions?)
Vet is coming out on the 15th anyway so I'll ask her to take a look if it's not under control by then.

I'd talk to the vet & explain all this tomorrow, the 15th is over a week away & I'd want to know what my options were before then.

Feet I'd treat with a good hoof disinfectant & make sure her bedding is always clean & dry. Pick out hooves every time you're there, you can't do it too many times.

The sores on her pasterns I'd probably try the Hypocare on as it will still allow the air to them. Is she th esort of horse that's prone to mites? That could be worth looking into because if it is then hey won't clear until you get the correct treatment.

Thanks. As I say I've been religiously picking out her hooves. Twice a day, every day. They got a thorough scrub with hibiscrub yesterday and have had hypocare twice since (only noticed the problem on Friday)
The sores look more like cracks than mite damage. I'm keeping a very close eye on them and will chat to the vet.

If she's on straw swop to shavings .
You to religiously keep the frogs treated for thrush when on box rest picking the feet out will not be enough when they are in all the time .
If what your using is not work swop to something else I tend to use blue spray from the vet .
If you have got a mite issue ( yuk ) get on top of it fast and as you said you will need to talk to the vet .
I would but the horse on a high quality general supplement and give 150 grammes of linseed a day if it where here .
Bedding needs to be very clean and dry and sometimes it takes eye watering amounts when the horse is in all the time .
If it's at all possible try to get the horse standing in the sun whenever you can .
We bath once a week when they are box rest if we are allowed to .
Managing box rest is expensive and very time consuming .

She is on miscanthus, not straw.
I have been semi deep littering: skip out twice daily and full muck out once a week. Her bed always seems pretty clean and dry.
Both issues are fairly new (noticed frog on Friday, first sore appeared Tuesday and was healing up ok, then 2 new ones appeared yesterday). I feel fairly confident it's not mites: as I say these last two that came up are definately cracks rather than weepy areas. Like if your hands have really dried out over winter and the skin has cracked.
She is on naf general purpose supplement which I will be switching for a better one when this tub has finished (next weekend)
I'll take a look at linseed.

ETA she goes out on a small patch of grass for 20 mins twice a day while I do my chores. So she gets a bit of sun and grass. She also gets the odd bath because she likes to lie in poo!

If she's quiet enough to go out for 20 mins x 2, would she be quiet enough to be out longer?

The cracks on the pasterns could also be as a result of bathing, perhaps?
