Am looking for a pony for my daughter either on loan or to buy.
Can i find one?!! like heck!!
Pony i was enquiring about turns out she is only 11hh so too small :(

I want something between 12 - 13hh for an 8 year old to gain a bit of confidence on. Daughter is the kind who needs a good few days on the lead rein then gets a sudden confidence boost and soon wants to go off lead rein and ride independently once she feels secure. She can ride and has cantered across open fields and jumped a few small jumps.
She would also like to do a few small shows and maybe pony club if i get some transport.
I want something she can handle herself on the ground, tack up and generally do herself under supervision and have some fun!!!!. The pony is to be led from my cob at first (cob is 100% safe) and then follow us on hacks around quiet lanes and bridleways with my friend and her daughter on her pony.
We also have access to a menage down the road.

I have found a pony which sounds very nice, its an exmoor and is quiet to ride. Lady says she is a lamb on the lead rein and generally quiet and is fine off lead rein too. Pony hasn't schooled much just hacked and plodded. Good in traffic etc its 12.2hh and quite wide being an exmoor so i know daughter would get a few years out of her and i don't think we would need to upgrade to something else.

Thinking of going to have a look as fairly local. Have also asked for a trial for 2 weeks if we like her.

Am i mad looking at an Exmoor for a child's pony?!!

No Exmoors can be super kids ponies only trouble is that some can be quite strong like any breed so ponies are best seen and tried before being dicounted on breed and size. My 13.2 Highland is a huge challenge for my six year old granddaughter were she to be naughty but she is so child orientated she looks after the little ones and any size rider from >3 to 16 stone can ride her

Not at all! My 4 year old daughter rides her friends exmoor and he's sweet as a nut! (Albeit a bit of a nutter off the leid rein so I've been told!!)

My friend has an Exmoor for her daughter and he us amazing! She had him when her daughter was about 4 and on the lead rein. Daughter is now 11 and just about outgrown him. Hes an excellent little pony so I'd say go and try the pony :)

Looks like the Exmoor is out the running now, i think she's asking a bit too much for whats shes done. For £1500 i want something thats been there done that got the t-shirt ultra safe type.

My grand-parents have a pony which maybe suitable for her, never even thought!! duh! they live a bit of a way away hence not even thinking about the pony! he maybe a bit sharp though so waiting to speak to my nan, they may not even want him to go!

My mum has a little section B but she's as sharp as a knife off the lead rein!

I think the only way your going to find out if they are well matched is to try. Dont discount any pony, its finding the right one, regardless what shape, colour or breed it is. Good luck.

i think people are quite willing to come down in price if negotiated well and a good home is offered! and a safe pony, not run into the ground is worth its weight in gold! id prefer something a little green but a quite ride over an oldie who may be safe as houses but in a years time you have to consider retirement or pts... i love exmoors and know someone who owns 3!!! all very good natured and have all manner of riders on them - from 4 year olds to grannies :)

when we bought my gelding (who had only ever done 1 dressage test and had 6 months off due to no rider) we didnt want to look over £4000... however he was advertised for £6000 and eventually came down to £5500....... the price was high due to his loveing attitude and not a nasty bone in his body.... my parents were quite happy for a 13 years old girl to go out hacking on a 15.3 tb for hours as they knew whatever we faced i would be well cared for.... that bit extra was worth it and i would quite happily sling a 3 year old on his back and plod them around on him!
