Anyone have the most acrobatic pony as mine?

Even if you tighten the belly straps up really tight and no air to see between belly and strap somehow he still manages to get his back legs caught in them!

A few times his back leg has been stuck under his belly, but 99% of the time he has managed to get his back leg back down on the ground. Only yesterday had he done the latter and managed to get his back leg between both the crossover belly straps and back on the ground although he wasnt walking properly, more "hopping". Had to undo the rug at the front and get him to climb out of it as straps were all still done up and wrapped round his back leg!

Stupid pony, all we can see is if he is doing it while he rolls. He lives out 24/7 so cant not have a rug on him over the winter, he is naked in the summer! But he is 22 so cant do without a rug.

Any ideas or anyone elses pony do the same?! Thanks :)

Lucy gets her legs through the belly straps. She will hop round the field on three legs as if it's compleatly normal till i go to help her (or like yesterday by the time i got to her she had freed herself somehow) i have also tried the belly straps tight but it doesn't seem to stop her doing it.

I do remember one old rug that had front leg straps and rear straps but no belly straps. Perhaps you could create something similar!?

My pony gets one leg out of the leg strap, so its the outside of her leg.

I have a couple of fleece rugs that just have one strap going across belly near the girth area, maybe try something like that (one is a comfort zone lapel rug is thats any help?)

My horse went really lame after a night with his back legs caught! and cut off his blood suply hardly managing to stand. What i can suggest is. All i've been able to do is either take the rug off get a better fitted one and tigten the straps. But if your pony does get hurt it's better to leave him in the field for about two days no rug and let him loosen himself off. If he cuts his blood supply the more he can walk around the less stiffer he'll get where as if you keep the pony in a stall he can't walk around much can he? Good-luck hope your pony doesn't get into two much of a tangle in the future!
