I am wanting to buy the Aviemore pony saddle/pad from Shires and it has long girth straps. Does this mean I need to buy a dressage girth to use with it? Or a short normal girth? Also what size girth would you recommend for a 11.2hh cob type pony?

It would need a dressage girth. No way of saying length other than to measure with pad on pony. What do you plan to do with pony? The pad will not be sufficient on it's own for riding properly and definitely not for an adult or larger rider. Any weight put in the stirrups could cause harm to pony's back. Please be careful before buying a saddle pad. It is cheap but that certainly doesn't mean it's good.

Thank you. Will go for a dressage girth then. The pad would just be for my 2 year old son and my 4 year old daughter to ride on the leadrein with. He has a very short back so fitting a saddle will be tricky and I think this would be a good start for the kids just so they can get a feel for the pony a bit better and possibly get a deeper seat like we would get if we were riding bare back. It has knee and thigh rolls too for extra support. Once he's got going properly and the kids are ready to do more, I will get a proper saddle fitter out to fit a proper saddle to him. I just cant afford it at the mo.
