they are up her neck, by her girth line and on her side, but lower down on the clipped bit (trace clip)

i sprayed her with mud-away spray the other day and they seem to have come up since then.. so i think its an allergic reaction; i have hibiscrubbed it and covered the lumps in sudocrem

the ones on her side are quite large
the ones on her neck are smaller, and her glands seem swollen (by her jaw)

any suggestions would be great

How many rugs have you got one her? It could be heat rash. Have you changed any feed stuff lately?

I clipped one of ours yesterday, and he is also covered in lumps all over his body. I had to feed a mollased chaff over Xmas cos I couldn't get Graze On, and I think its this that he has reacted too.

As far as heat rash is concerned, if nothing else has changed but you have out extra rugs on, then reduce the quantity. A few years ago, 3 of ours had heat rash even though they were fully clipped. They had to be nude during the day for about a week, and then it settled down again.
 
my mares lumps have gone down a little after having them a week today and shes sooooo itchy! i used that 7 day mud away spray as well a couple of days before she came up in these lumps. vets said it was definately an allergic reaction to something shes eaten in field or come into contact with, though was confused she only got them on her neck and not the rest of her body! he did suggest that if they lasted into next week antibiotics were needed

forgot to say the vet also mentioned to leave the lumps alone as i may do more harm than good as i also washed with hibiscrub. though if it was spring/summer time i would of put my horseys lumps down to flies and midges. if they dont go down any time soon may me worth while getting your vet out
 
Definately sounds like some kind of allergic reaction. Just out of interest,you haven't changed washing powder recently have you? Also,mud away may have some ingredient that horsey in allergic too. Its' usually a process of illimination (sp).

When was she clipped, could it be a reaction to clipping oil? Or rolled in something she has had an allergic reaction to, her glands swelling would worry me a bit though I'd keep an eye on it and if it gets worse call the vet.

My boy has simular lumps all over his back legs and belly once, we think he rolled in something as only him and a horse in his field got it.
 
Do you feed barley, one of my neighbour's horses came up in lumps all over and on trying to guess why we found out that she had upped his barley rings and he just couldn't cope with the extra rations.
 
My new horse had these when I first viewed him (fully clipped and small lumps all over mid/lower belly), at pre-purchase vet said allergy/feed thing. 4 weeks later when he arrived with me he still had them, he's been with me 4 weeks and just this week they've all gone. He's been fed on Baileys cubes and Alfa-A & also been on Blue chip nearly 2 weeks.
 
My mare developed Urticaria/hives (fluid filled lumps) all over her torso and neck after clipping on a very cold day.

I'd borrowed the clippers from a friend and the blades had just come back from being sharpened. I know they dipped them in Witch Hazel or the like to disenfect them, and the blades are sprayed with with oil to protect them, so I was convinced that this was the cause.

My vet, on the other hand thought it was caused by feed or environment. Had to remove pony from my field which had many Leylandii trees in it, and take her off all hard feed and haylage.

The lumps only came up on the cold parts of her body, like neck and underside of belly/upper forearms. If I left her rug off for any length of time they'd all come up on her body too.

It took 6 week of steroids and homeopathic stuff for them to go.

She wasn't at all bothered with them in that they didn't itch or were sore - just unsightly.

Wish I could remember the names of the 2 pots of homeo stuff I used because that is really what sorted it.
 
My mare has these lumps at the minute. She has had them for almost a month now. But the reason I havent called the vet is that she has had them before. The first time with me using a lot of fly spray, she got a couple of lumps and I thought it was fly bites so sprayed more.

More lumps came.
Then the second time was when I changed her feed.
This time I`m not sure and I havent changed anything but we did notice that the new lot of haylage bales we got were slightly different to usual. It was more damper and browner. But I didnt notice this was the cause at first because as there was a lot of snow on the ground, I presumed she was eating something out of the hedges, so I put haylage out in the field too.

I have been taking photos of them every morning and evening and they are just starting to go. They started off with small lumps on her neck and shoulders, then they spread to her back, belly and quarters. They then changed shape and went like a douhgnut with a dent in the middle and then the outside spread into bigger flatter rings, then into no shapes at all, just lines like a jigsaw. When she had them before, I was told to ride her to sweat it out of her and that helped a lot but you cant do that in this weather... So I`ve had to grin and bear it. They havent burst or scabbed just raised marks on her body. Over the last couple of days they have dispersed more but its like they have dropped to her lower abdomen in pockets of fluid. Today tho, there are smooth bits where they have disappeared so it is looking like its finally going.
Obviously when I realised it could be the haylage, when the snow disappeared, I bought 3 bales of horsehage, but after just 1 bale, there wasnt a marked difference so she has been on hay now for 4 days and its looking good.
I have checked in my old diary and the last time she had the lumps and the culprit was taken away within a week, the lumps took 6 weeks to disappear. I havent touched them this time, just left them, but when it was the fly spray, I did bath her in treseme shampoo with deep cleansing properties cos I had to get the fly spray off and it eased them straight away. It does sound like the spray for mud may have had an effect on your horse so I would wash it off with a deep cleansing shampoo like I did just to get it off the skin.

This could very well be a something as simple as a reaction to feed, what you wash you rugs with or something lurking in your paddock, etc:
However, as you say her jaw glands are swollen - RING YOUR VET ASAP.
This could be STRANGLES - you need to get a diagnosis asap.
 
definitly not strangles; as they have nearly all cleared now

i havent changed her feed or her rugs; she has a quilt on and a fleece (however when she came up with the lumps i put a different rug on to make sure it wasnt the quilt)

they have gone down and seem fine though

but 2 other horses came up with lumps on the yard; but they went within a couple of days... but they are on haylage so they think it was the change of haylage...

they dont seem very serious now so hopefully itll be ok. the vet is coming out on wednesday so if they havent completly gone then i will get him to check pony

shes only had one clip this year; and that was in october
