Got this little pony that i have been asked to work on a weekend, she's a Newforest x welsh been told shes around 18-19 years old and about 14hh
I rode her last weekend for the first time she has not been ridden in 6 months! was fine a little spooky and basicly just testing me but circles she couldnt bend properly and along the straight she just cantered off and away from the track.

Decided im not going to ride this weekend but lunge her, i have a week off college next week so will try work her at least every other day and ride next weekend to see how its helped.

What lungeing exercises do you recommend?

I'd suggest taking it very very slowly!

She's an old girl that's been out of work.

If you really want to lunge, I'd only do it for 5 mins with mainly walk and small amount of trot.

What I'd really suggest is doing a week of ridden walk in straight lines (starting with only 10-15 mins then building it up), then a week of walk and trot in straight lines. then in the 3rd week you could think about doing some gentle schooling in walk and trot, maybe canter straight lines if fit enough.

Have you had her back, teeth and tack checked recently?

Ditto all of this. But i would stick to walk for at least a month, then not canter for another month after that.
