Pony jump/GP saddles for a section A. Any recommendations please!? Barrel type, not as in fat, she’s just that shape.

Anyone who has seen my earlier threads will know that this is an ongoing saga which I am thoroughly fed up of.

No Monarchs, Equipe or Pessoa. They don’t suit. She has a Fylde Hayden which fits well but no support for the rider who is now jumping more.

Budget is not an issue, I want my child in a well-fitting and safe saddle.
I’ve now had several long waits from different fitters for expensive saddles which have not fitted when they arrived. She is obviously a difficult pony to fit and the saddlers have all been nice but I’m pretty fed up now.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted. There must be something I haven’t thought of!

Not many jumping saddles are made in 14” or 15”. What about a GP or Working Hunter? Fylde make a working hunter saddle - Nathan I think it’s called.

Also, it doesn’t need to be brown leather for jumping, right? My section As are mostly happy in GP Thorowgood saddles that we picked up for not a lot second hand locally. Meant we could try them out before buying and it wasn’t a big risk if it didn’t work. Otherwise the same idea applies - see what you can find locally that was on a section A, ask if you can bring pony to try. Put up wanted ads on local FB horsey pages maybe too. I had the most awful to fit section B once. Ended up with a saddle that must have been 50 years old…but it fit and it did the job.

Kent and masters pony saddle. We Have a very wide table top welsh sec a and saddle fitter recommend getting his saddle and we got one and had it fitted and it fits her lovely. It also has a lovely deep seat so helps keep the child a but more secure too.

I have an AH pony jump saddle on my connie, they have a few different designs, they are designed for wider horses. Also used to ride lots of different ponies in a 16” Adam Ellis jump saddle when I worked for a dealer and seemed to sit fairly well on most of them.

Tried a Nathan, no good sadly.

I’d love to try a Harry Dabbs but no local saddlers do them or if they do they don’t have small ones we can try, and I’m very reluctant to have a saddle made again without trying it first.

Nearest AH fitter was 5 hours away when last I looked.

Tried the K&M but it sat very high off her back and looked odd.

Going to give Black Country a try I think as they do neat pony saddles. And keep looking out for Harry Dabbs on trial websites.

Hate to say this but I’ve pretty much had it with professional fitters. I’ve wasted hundreds of pounds on fuel and fittings for saddles that don’t fit, and I now have a £2.5k saddle that doesn’t fit and I don’t even know if they’ll take it back as we’ve had it nearly a month.

All the fitters have been lovely people but honestly I’m now 6 months in and considerably worse off and still don’t have a saddle that fits. It’s mad.

This is exactly why I don’t even bother! I keep an eye out, find people who’ll let me try something that looks about right, and take a punt, knowing that if pony changes shape I can sell it on for roughly what I paid for it. We got a Wintec pony saddle that way last year - fitted daughter’s pony really well and the person I bought it off was lovely, she let us try it on and even put me in touch with a friend who had one that might fit one of my others. I’ve just sold the Wintec for what I paid, as the seat is a bit deep now daughter wants to jump. The other saddle is still in use. I have a friend who has been sold two saddles her horse didn’t like in that time, for thousands each. One was massively too long. The other, from a different saddler, technically fit in many ways but was the wrong style for her so the fit wasn’t complete. She hated it so that had to go back too. She’s stuck riding in an ancient synthetic of no apparent make that’s worth about £50 but fits and the horse loves it - despite desperately wanting a lovely new leather saddle.

Yep I cannot see myself ever going to a fitter again, I am seriously just fuming about the whole thing to be quite honest.

It really just feels unfair when I’ve gone to great lengths to do it all ‘right’ and thrown large amounts of money at the problem, just to have months of hassle, time and expense for nothing.

If your looking for something specific like a harry dabbs, have you tried contacting the trial places, sheepham, saddle bank etc. I know sheepham actively looked for the saddle my friend was after & contacted her straight away when they found one. You still get it on a trial so no risk if it doesn't fit.
