Pony kept in cellar

And this bloke said when asked why keep animals like that 'why not' at that point a gun should have been placed at his head the the trigger pulled!!!!!!

Heard this on the radio and it made my blood boil! Not just ignorance i'm sure; they had beeen banned from keeping animals more than 10 years ago!!

Appalling. Have to say you worry for the people as well though. This was their house (I think), so it was them as well as the animals living in these conditions. They clearly had mental issues (if not mentally ill then possibly low intelligence and lack of empathy) that weren't being addressed. It is right to be angry but as far as I can tell these people needed help almost as much as the animals.

No, what these people NEED is to abide by the Court ruling that banned them from owning animals for LIFE back in 1995.

NeilM I'm not saying that these people were in anyway legal or suitable owners.

I'm saying that if you live in a chaotic house with animal excrement entirely covering your floors you are probably not in a normal frame of mind and/or able to manage your life effectively without intervention.

I don't want to start a race war, lol, but a number of comments have been made about Wales having an unusual number of cruelty and neglect cases.

This couple in particular I think are English as the report says 'The couple had already been banned from keeping dogs for 10 years due to animal welfare breaches in 1993.

After more series breaches in 1995 both were banned from keeping all animals for life.

The couple appeared before magistrates in Kingston upon Thames, where they were living at the time, on both occasions'

Cheap isolated farm properties were bought in the 1970's by people re locating to Wales who were engaged in puppy farming.

I don't care what frame of mind these people were in. They lived in the house and kept a host of animals in a pitch black basement.

In other words, they knew full well that they were not allowed to own animals and sought to conceal the fact that they had them by hiding them.

They quite clearly were mentally competent enough to 1) buy the animals in the first place, which implies they had money.(2) Hide them, as they knew full well they were breaking the law by owning them.

We are not talking a couple of dogs and a cat here, there were 24 animals down there.
