This just shocks me that one of my favorite BNT/BNR would lunge a pony like this?

I had always thought Coby VanBaalen was very classical in her training?
The worst thing is her statement denying it. What a bunch of BS! I would have thought better to say: "this is how I train because I believe in the results I get."

Is this the same article as posted by PG the other day? I am glad to see that, going by the posts on the other forum, other people also seem to be against these methods ( I can't speak french, but I could get the gist of it)

Yes that will really help the horse accept the contact in a willing and light way and keep his mouth lovely and soft!!!!!!! Makes you wonder what is going on in some peoples heads.

poor flipping pony.
Although i've seen horses lunged and ridden that deep in draw reins in this country, and there wasn't much difference tbh.

Absolutely awful. Bordering on cruelty.

Interesting that this is what was done in full view at a competition, although the trainer states that their training sessions at home are open to viewing.

Has anyone been and viewed the training sessions at home ?

This is the "reaction" press release from CvB.

I just cannot believe she is saying she trussed up that pony like that by accident!

I would think any horse would react violently if you cranked the sidereins so their nose was to their chest!

And for an experience trainer like CvB not to notice until they had him walking around on the lunge line?
"Oooops, his nose is on his chest!"

Why would CvB make up so many lies?

I am becoming very discouraged this year by what goes on at "the top" by BNT's and BNR's and the governing bodies just turn a blind eye!

CvB gives her e-mail address in her statement.
(in case anyone has questions for her)

Statement Issued by Coby van Baalen:

Coby Van Baalen [ QUOTE ]

In short, my reaction to the Swedish magazine comes down to the following. The fact is that the photographer took these pictures in the first minute of the lunge with Power and Point and so, they do not tell the whole story. You can see that it is the start of the lunge as the pony is either standing or walking and he is not sweating from the exercise. In the pictures, both myself and my student are looking at the pony and immediately saw that the lunge was not established correctly. We allow the pony to walk a couple of seconds and change the lunge immediately so that it is in its normal position. After that, we have been able to lunge the pony in a good way, resulting in the pony’s looseness with a beautiful posture. Unfortunately, the photographer was not interested in this and did not make pictures of that, which I regret.

It serves no purpose to lunge a horse/pony in the way shown on the relevant pictures. We always lunge in the normal way and this was a one-off incident from which my student has learned and which lasted no longer than half a minute."

Having just looked at the pics - I don't see how it could have been 'no longer than 1/2 a minute' as the woman in orange is holding the lunge rein and then the young girl in the lower down pics. This suggests to me that it might have been longer - though he isn't sweating, I fail to understand how she didn't notice!!

I am by no means a professional rider yet I manage to see these things!! What is with these people? They obviously don't learn from each other (read Amy T)

Some one must be writing letters!

Supposedly the FEI "is looking into it"

After what happened with AT, I guess we will just have to see if the FEI just spins this one also.
