Help we have just got a pony for my eldest son he's 12.2hh skewbald Welsh type but he's got the same name as my youngest son and one needs to have his name changed and not sure my husband would be too happy with me changing my sons name so the pony will have to have a name change, so any suggestions?

Are there names that sound similar that might suit. Maybe your son has some ideas on what he'd like his pony to be called.

I had a lovely stallion that came to me called Luke, soooo not right for a stallion, he became Zeus.

Names are funny things, often I think the horse has to be nameless until we get to know them better, or a name just pops up. Years ago we had a little welsh mare called Bambi, she may have been a Bambi when she was a foal but it just wasn't right, so for ages she was just 'Evie's mare' until I realised that every morning when I came on the yard she whinnied to me and I was saying "Hello Baby" so she became Baby :)

How about keeping his current name and adding " ...'s jigsaw", "...'s puzzle" or "..'s patchwork/patches"? Not terribly original but not a complete change of name either as it will only be for competitions/official paperwork and you can use the new part at home Or just choose a totally new name! Best of luck

Names are hard.. I don't like my ponies name but I've got used to it and now I can't imagine changing it as it suits him in an annoying way!
I often find a name comes to me when I see the animal in question - can you post a photo? :)

If not, my bank of male names for ponies includes: prince, badger (the name i'd change my pony to if I could bring myself to do it), rocky, cloud, thomas, freddie.
