On horse and country channel now....

Is it just me or do all the kids spend all their time hauling on their ponies mouths.....

I dont feel it makes for nice watching really..... sad, but the one girl so far who rode nicely.... took ages.

I suppose they have to do all they can to get round the fastest, but the ponies all look so gobbed in the mouth the whole time

Surely they cant be having a good time..... how do these kids go on from this to make nice balanced riders ???
 
Funny, I was just sitting and thinking the same as you merlinsQuest. The new combination was the nicest round I thought too. TBH, I watched 10 mins and switched over. Seems a shame that such talented, willing ponies are hauled around like this.

Of course I am only expressing my opinion and it's the first time I've seen POYS......
 
I watched the rest and there were some super riders..... but they were all too slow

So it looks like you either have to be a nice slow rider, or to win you have to do a bit of dentistry

I feel that there should be marks awarded for equitation skills as well as just going fast and clear...... that way perhaps the ponies would be treated a bit more considerately.
 
I was going to post about it but didn't have time before.

I can't believe the appalling standard of some of the riders especially the girl on a chestnut which refused at the wall. It then jumped it and she thrashed it, not only her whip but her spurs as well! Then the rest of the round it jumped perfectly well but she was at it the whole time, belting it after a jump and really raking it with spurs. I was disgusted; I'm very surprised that she wasn't eliminated for her behaviour; she certainly should get a written warning from the BSJA.

There were also riders in anoraks and not proper jackets; how is that allowed at that level, it looks awful as if they can't be bothered? Another gripe would be long hair not in a net, looks awful bouncing about at the back and very amateurish.

All in all, very disappointed and ashamed that they should be our British riders behaving and looking like ignorant prats; they should know better and their elders certainly show them up for attitude and turnout.
 
Glad I wasnt the only one who thought like this.... as soon as I posted the standard did get better, but with the improvement came slower times..... they cant seem to be quick and sympathetic riders!!!
 
Since I decided I need to get a rider for my pony I've been watching kids ride and I can't believe how bad some of them are. The behaviour they exhibit would never be considered acceptable for adult riders so why can they do it? Those poor ponies

I'm so glad I wasn't being a fuddy duddy then.
I can't tell you how disappointed I was by this dropping of standards, I thought the show jumping world woould be trying to keep standards up not down; such a backward step. We have some of the best riders in the world; you'd have thought they should be trying to emulate them - not John Wayne!

i think its the bsjas way of modernising showjumping!
awful attempt!

i was there (with a kid that can ride - on a novice pony!) so saw the bad dress / bad riding up close...

scarred now!
