After a conductor refused him entry, the man returned to the ticket booth where he tried to buy two tickets - for himself and the animal.

Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) said horses were not permitted on safety grounds. The RSPCA said it was concerned and was viewing the CCTV tapes.

The man tried to travel on Saturday's 1902 BST service to Holyhead on Anglesey with his four-legged companion.

The ATW spokeswoman said: "Arriva Trains Wales allows dogs and small animals to travel on-board trains.

The pony has now also shown up at the pub. Anyone else thinking this might be a PR stunt of some kind? Or am I just highly cynical:D

It is very beautiful small breed which fascinates every one.I have two pony horses and i do care them a lot.Its very unique breed and able to watch.

I read that the RSPCA were investigating. Obviously the healthy looking little pony is getting enough publicity coverage for them to do so - a pity they aren't always so quick to get involved, in real welfare issues like the current Welsh Pony Builth sales :(

I agree, I would far prefer the RSPCA concentrate on ponies that are in need of urgent help.

I remember when hunters, racehorses and polo ponies all travelled to meets and games on the train , very often there were no ramps at the country stations and they had to jump on and off into the wagons.
