Have to say, I agree with your 'Most important thing in field' answer.

Without grass for them to eat, what would be the point of turning them out? LOL

Most important thing in a field? The horse:p

I would definitely fail:eek:

I did LOL at your gates though;)

ETA questions....

How would you check to see if your pony is cold?

How would you care for a hot sweaty horse after exercise?

What are the signs of good health?

Apart from shivering I don't know Spudlet

I would cool down the horse by walking for 20 mins then if still sweaty put a stable rug on, then 1/2 to an hour after that allow him/her to have water

Bright eyes, pricked ears, responding to voice, head up, showing intrest in surrondings

About the gates one, Its one of the girls first gymkana and we were talking about the quiz. RI said ' you'll be fine if you don't do this ' goes off and comes back with my answer sheet. I was mortified, I think I should of got half a mark for knowing the names of some gates

I was taught to feel the base of their ears, if they are warm the horse is warm, if they are cold the horse will be feeling the chill:)

Perfectly acceptable, you could also walk for a shorter time period, rinse off and scrape any sweat patches then put a cooler rug under a stable rug - depends how hot they are!

Right again, don't forget also - a good appetite, and normal pulse and respiration rate:)

Next question! Why might you check the digital pulse in a horse?

ETA
I say more stupid things than that regularly, I am a wee bit deaf so sometimes totally mishear questions and answer in a totally random way! So was laughing with you, not at you :)

Well, close! A strong digital pulse can be a sign of lamintis, so if you had a laminitic you might check the digital pulse regularly as an early warning sign. You would need to know what is normal for that horse, then keep an eye out for changes. Other signs would be 'footiness' so if you found a pulse you might want to lead the horse over stony ground and look out for signs of reluctance. Depression (especially if accompanied by a tense, rigid kind of stance) can be a sign of pain - then of course there is the classic laminitic stance, rocked back on the heels. You would also be thinking about risk factors - like rich spring or autumn grass, or recent hard work on a hard surface.:)

To check the pulse generally, the pulse under the jaw is generally a better choice. You would count for 15 seconds while the horse is relaxed and at rest, then multiply by 4 to get the resting heart rate. The normal range is 36 - 48 beats per minute, this varies from horse to horse, so it's good to know what is usual for your horse.

For the points of the horse get a good diagram in one of the many books available and learn them by picking a starting point - I use the poll - and work your way down the neck, along the body, down the hind legs, back up the fore legs and back up the throat area of the neck to the head.

I definitely think you should have got points for knowing the types of gate!

Good luck!
