I am literally at the end of my tether :( pony has had allergy lumps for at least 2 months if not longer now. If left the lumps turn scabby and secrete serum and eventually the hair falls out. we've just finished our second lot of steroid tablets and they are returning again.

Anyone been through skin biopsies, hair follicle testing or skin scraping!?

I want whats best for pony but just conscious I don't want to through money away as her skin is not covered on her insurance policy

TIA

Sorry to hear that Beckstar - one of mine reacts to environmental things with loss of hair or lumpy bumps. Have you and the vets an inkling what is setting the reaction off? Sunshine, buttercups, flyspray --other horses flyspray(if grooming one another)..mine reacts to alfalfa. The cause is still in the environment - where are the lumps - have you washed numnah in biological washing powder? Its a pain but you have to strip everything back to simple basics - I have had skin scrapes done but inconclusive in our case. Something in past two months has triggered the change and you have to turn detective I think.

Beckstar are you using any sort of branded bedding? We had this earlier in the year due to a certain type of hemp that I thought was worth trying(wrongly!).

Thanks everyone for replying I should of gone into more detail. I've swapped feed, bedding, we've tried her in and out, I've tried fly rugs on and off, I've bought new rugs ans numnahs and tonight we've moved her to a stable on the other side of yard that's a little more airy :/
