Our pony alays has a lovely deep bed, so cozy sometimes I nearly feel like getting curled up int my self :)

The last few nights he has taken away all his straw and you can see where he has been having a lovely nights sleep, on the hard floor.

Why? does anyone elses pony/horse do this?

Ours sometimes digs and you can see she's been lay on the floor - she ALWAYS makes a nice neat bed her own so I don't know why we bother! A long shot, but I know dogs like to lie on the floor when they are too hot?

We had a pony that always used to lie down n sleep on the concreate floor infrount of the door, she was a law unto herself but it didnt cause her any harm. (she did have a nice bed of shavings)

A thought - is he moulting? If he is and he's itchy, he might be trying to get to the floor as it's a better scratchy thing than bedding.

Mine is being a demon for rolling in the nice nubbly, muddy gateway when his rug comes off during the day.

Will keep thinking!

Horses aen't birds, they don't need a nest. Turned out 24/7, they don't go dragging materials into a heap and lie on it instead they choose to use the comfy ground to sleep on. It's we, the humans who think they should.

Like some others have already said, I'd bet he's to warm in the straw.

But then the ground is still frozen solid, covered in snow and daytime highs are reaching a massive -7C at the moment. I'd nest too.

OP, I wouldn't worry too much unless your horse is getting sores. perhaps put down a bit of matting if you don't already have it?

Ours mooch through there bedding (straw) to find nice bits to eat and it's looks like they have had a fight in there in the morning and there are bare spots onto the rubber matting so they must end up lying on the matting, it's a bit peeving as we spend a while doing them nice fluffy beds lol lol
