A few people have told me that putting a pony stallion on an tall mare (16.2hh) will usually result in something much closer to the mare's height because she is carrying it. Is this true?

I read that when crossing connemaras to thoroughbreds a tall tb mare is used because you'll always end up with a horse, genetically though could it not go either way?

When my 14.2 JA stallion was put on a 16.3 ISH and a 16.2 WB (both had had foals before) both foals made 15.1, not as big as you would have expected. Yet I put my 16.2 stallion on my 14.2 JA (maiden mare) and that foal has now made 16.2!

Thanks for that Fahrenheit, good to get examples! That is strange. I didn't know that about Fear Biu, I am looking at one of his sons to cover my mare. I'd be happy with anything 14.3 - 16.1hh as I'm petite, but might have to sell outside that!

I just have to decide whether to use a performance connie or a show one, but I have my favourite of each!

*crosses fingers for a 15 something*
