What are the chances of finding a pony to loan for the summer?

Lead rein/first ridden so can be older, health issues, restricted grazing etc not a problem.

We had a pony but he turned out not to be ideal for our young daughter, so he was rehomed.

My daughter is going to a riding school which is fab but it would be nice to have her "own" again for a while.

She is young so thinking of a longer term loan from maybe next year, we already own the second pony but she has just gone out on loan until daughter is old enough for her!
Complicated!

So where do I look or advertise and what are the chances of finding a pony?

Try Horsequest - there are lots of loans / leases advertised and you can also put wanted ads on there.

Also ask at local saddlery shops and give your local pony club DC a call.

I found a fantastic little LR/first ridden just recently on NFED (New Forest Equine Directory), 23 yrs old & absolutely push button. I see you are in N. Somerset, not all the ads are New Forest area & I suppose it's no too far to travel for the right pony if it does turn up there, usually loads of ads :)

I've just had mine returned from loan through no fault of her own and pondering what to do with her - whether to put her back out on loan or sell her. I think it would be easier if you were offering a longer term loan home .

I know one of my local Riding schools sometimes puts their little ponies out on loan for periods to prevent them from getting too stale and bored, might be an idea to contact any near you ?

Contact your local pony clubs- that is how we found all our first ponies. Also because most people know them it is easy to find out whether they would be suitable.

Try Trade-It

I normally browse most days (bored at work ) and have seen some little ponies for loan in the Bristol / surrounding area recently.

Found 2 loan ponies through this route.

You could also put some ads in tack shops. Murphys in Hewish have a book you can put your ads in. Same goes for the local feed merchants (A E James in Barrow Gurney, Nichols in Chipping Sodbury / Warmley, A J Wyatts in Stowey etc)

They are out there but has others have said, you may find it difficult to find one for just the summer period. This is normally when owners find it easier to keep hold of them rather than finding a home going into / out of winter.

Thanks ofg.
I will try my local places. Like equicraft, Murphy's and the feed mill.

Yes I understand its a big ask just for the summer, but I wanted to hear if anyone else had done this or the likelihood of finding a pony.

No problem.

If you had wanted a share and didn't want to have pony at your own place and had been closer to where I have mine you could have borrowed my sons pony. She's a little sweetheart and a great lead rein pony.
