how much would you say a 14.2 Connemara could carry comfortably? I've been given the opportunity to school a lovely gelding, whilst my horse is out of work, however at 5'9 i worry i might be too big. so how many stone would a fine-ish 14.2 pony be able to carry? and what about a 14h/14.1h chunky new forest be able to hold? as theres the option of my riding my friends mare too. thanks in advance for your help.

how much do you weigh?

height means nothing-im 5'7 and rode a 12hh last week...i weigh 7 stone 11...

both should be perfectly happy with 10.5 stone, if you are more than that we need to really know the weights of the ponies.

i weigh roughly 8 stone 8, so it should be ok? the connie is a finer type connie, however the nf is rather chunky, as he is show bred.

I believe it's supposed to be 15% of their body weight - inc tack etc.
I'm currently riding a 13.2, short backed cob who recently weighbridge weighed at 440kgs so his limit is 66kgs inc tack so maybe 60kgs for the rider weight (9.4 stone). I'd be surprised if either of the two you describe are smaller than him.
