Hi,
Our little old welsh pony, has COPD, this has been managed fine in all the years we have had him, never has he had to been out of work untill now. In November he and another one of our ponies went down with a virus, the other pony recovered but he has not, and has been coughing ever since, the vet came out at the end of November and prescribed ventipulem and something else, when that ran out they had both stopped coughing and then a week later little old pony begins coughing again :(, he was then back on ventipulmen, and was one NAF respirator boost, and Koff Ease (this helps but his cough is still really bad). He is in at night- open fronted barn stabling(designed around his COPD), no bedding (was on wood pellets though this, we think was too dusty for him), and his hay is soaked, any other suggestions on what to do or to give him to help?, Thanks in advance.

My copd pony is struggling this winter out if work for 1st time ever. Winergy ventilated helps her. She's ended up on ventopullmin this year too.

We add a couple of drops of olbas oil to bucket feeds, seems to help loosen the chest, also keep on the respirator supliment, soak all hay and feeds, exercise when possible. Its a horrible condition, hope your ponies feel better soon.

One of the ponies doesn't have COPD, but was coughing on and off during the summer. She's on loan and I've since been told that she is prone to a cough and better off with haylage rather than hay.

I moved her onto wood pellets and shavings. I had found that even soaked hay still set her off so moved her onto high fibre haylage and she's not coughed since. Horrendous for the bank balance (works out about 5 x the cost of hay) but makes a big difference. Might be worth trying?

She's a bit of a fizzpot so I haven't dared try her on regular haylage. The high fibre stuff seems to suit very well so we've stuck with that.

Might be worth giving a go? Good luck.
