Buddy, a pony owned by a girl at my yard, could jump to the top of the wings and beyond at home in the yard but will refuse at any jump when she takes him out for a competition. Anybody have any ideas why? We know that it's not the fact it's a competition, because he refuses at comps at home too?? Really confused and everybody at the yard gets frustrated and poor Zara (the owner) gets heartbroken and frustrated so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!:)

Bet it's the owner not the horse transmitting/transferring certain 'vibes' that worries the horse so he feels unable to jump.

Can you think of anything different that happens on day of a compeition?

Is she jumping full courses at home when practicing?

Can she take pony to a venue with jumps to hire for an hour and treat it as if a competition i.e. prepare pony in morning as would for a competion, travelling, do a warm up, get someone to make up a course and she does the course and see if same problems happen.

Is there a lot of waiting around home or away for comps that could be affecting pony?

How old is pony and has it done comps before without problems?
