my very old pony has upper lip has started twitching. first happened about 3 weeks ago when show was here. at first i thought she'd eaten some snow or something or her lips were cold but snow has long gone ans she's still doing it. she is eating normally then starts doing it when led in from the field etc. she tucks her head in to her chest and snorts a bit as well. i literally cant see anything stuck or any issues with her nose and mouth- any ideas? she is ancient by the way! its getting quite severe now.

When you say twitching do you mean like a muscle spasm or is she physically moving it?

We have an older pony who is 23 who looks like he's gossiping all day. He moves his lips up and down like he's miming to something

He only started to do it when he was retired when he was about 19, didnt call the vet out for it but just enquired while he was over doing jabs on other horses. He said he was doing it because he wanted to. Simple as that.

We laugh about it now, he is one of the cheekiest ponies ive ever met and he spends all day chatting, chewing, nipping people, escaping from stables etc etc. Any kids that meet him fall in love with our Chatty little pony

ye will have to try video it i think. its quite severe now so its more than just a spasm. she's started to rub her nose against things when tied up but other than that doesnt seem to bothered. i've had a poke around and cant see anything. she does it more when i lead her in from the field, doesnt seem to do it when i put her out in the morning. she's kind of smacking her lips together if that makes sense

This is exactly like our pony. He rubs his muzzle on things and like you say "smacks his lips together"
