A friend lost her pony recently to a freak accident. She is a very petite lady so is looking for a new pony - 13.2 - 14.2, it can be green or sharp and she enjoys local shows and would like a pony with the potential to go further.

Her YO have offered her a nice 3yo Welsh, just broken for £3k

. As an arab owner, ponys are not my thing - but does that not seem rather steep?

To me it sounds a bit steep, it would depend on breeding and what the horse was actually like to look at and handle. If its a fairly run of the mill welsh with the basic credentials you outline I would suggest £1500 would be closer to what I would expect to pay.

How much!!! i'm no expert but i wouldn't pay that. If it is just 3 then surely it hasn't done anything at all. (at least i'd like to think not!)

Apparantley it is well bred and a potential HOYS pony (bet that line is from the seller!) but it has not done anything so far. No in-hand showing and just backed.

I'd be happy to get 1/2 that for my 13.1/2 very green ride and drive.....
Unless it is very well bred does seem very pricey TBH

but a 14.2 is always worth way more than a 13.2 - they're hard to get hold of!

Run of the mill breeding, 14.2 just broken (but still nice to look at) then I agree with £2k......but you pay for breeding with a cob as you would any other breed?

I had a registered Welsh C for sale for 3k recently - she had won and been placed County level showing. At her last BSPS show she won the Novice Heritage B & C, won the restricted open and was reserve Champ. Was third in her first ever BSPS Worker and has done one unaff dressage with good results.
She is very well bred and 6years old she was underpriced due to market climate but I would have sold at that price - so yes I think her YO is overpricing the pony!!
I would expect to pay about 1k for a 3yo welsh unless it was very special!!
