My little man has a jippy tummy and has had since worming him saturday morning. diarrhoea for the rest of the day and didnt have a proper poo until yesterday morning when he did 2 one before and one after breakfast which were solid at which point I cheered although he had been getting better. then he didnt finish his lunch yesterday and has had diarrhoea again and was sick twice last night (just watery) after i gave him something light to eat (fish). His gums are a healthy colour and he is starving. Gave him scarmbled egg for breakfast and he had poo'd (not as runny) when he was checked at lunch time but hadnt been sick. How long do wormers take to 'work' ie to take effect on the worms and for them to be expelled? He is bright, happy and hungry and drinking as normal. He hasnt been anywhere different so don't think he could have eaten something untoward?

Hes 3 months old now. Haven't spoken to the vet yet as hes bright as a button and hasn't lost his appetite. If he doesnt have a proper poo first thing in the morning then he will be off to the vets! He had a poorly tummy last time he was wormed (that was his last fortnightly worming) and this was his first monthly worming. ll give him a proper dinner later and see how he goes.

[/ QUOTE ]Ahh OK... did you use the same wormer as last time? Perhaps it doesn't agree with him... hows about trying a different one? Did the vets supply the wormer?

he had the same wormer as last time and it is the one that the breeder used for him and the rest of the litter (Drontal liquid). I bought it from vetsuk and it is in date etc. My friend thinks hes probably found something 'lovely' to eat in the garden. God they are such a worry! I ddin't sleep much last night and I had bad dreams about going into the kitchen and him not waking up. I was really noisy going downstairs and breathed a bit sigh of relief when i heard him rattling about! I adore that little man!!! He came upstairs to our bedroom and i asked seeing as he was poorly could he come on our bed for a cuddle and boyf gave in (it was supposed to be the one part in the house he wasnt allowed)

[/ QUOTE ]Oh really? Well perhaps you should try a different one? I was told by my vet that Drontal was quite a harsh wormer?! - We use frontline... may be the same not sure though!?!

Think that the next time he is due worming that you should take him to the vets and get him weighed and ask what they recommend.Drontal puppy is safe but can upset their tummys a wee bit prob best to try panacur paste next time as this is alot easier to pass through and very rarely causes upset. You could just have a sickly pup on your hands so it would be wise to take him to vet tomorrow if hasnt stopped diarrhoea or vomiting as when theyre very young they can become dehydrated very quickly.Dont let him get into the habit of going to bed.ha ha.They soon take over.xx

i have been having the same problem with my pup she is about 5 months old now, although she hasnt had a wormer to make her like this but i think she may have had some hoof trimming from when the blackismith visited the other day, but the same effect every hour on the hour...dry food and she had some natural yogurt seems to be a bit better, just make sure they dont get dehydrated

He will be off to vets after breakfast tomorrow if he hasnt improved (he normally goes for a poo after his breakfast so will check activity!)

I have been making sure he is drinking lots of water and he is also having his usual goats milk. His pinch recovery is good and when you press his gums they pink up again straight away. Fingers crossed for proper poos either later or in the morning!!!

I will get him some yoghurt later (he usually has bio yoghurt when he has his raw meat) might help to settle him. We did go to arena UK on saturday afternoon and he ate hoss poo but thats it. Unfortunately he isnt allowed his food dry as Dobes are prone to bloat

My dogs have been wormed with Drontal in the past- until they had the problems you describe. When I spoke to the vet she said it was common with Drontal, and changed my dogs onto Milbemax (which they now use routinely as so many dogs seemed to have had issues with Drontal.) Never had a problem with Milbemax and dont know anyone else who has either.

Hes always had goats milk and raw extras to accompany his Nutro. Think it must be something random he picked up in the garden. He did bring me a rather manky deadbird the other day when I was at my mums as a love token, I thanked him and put it straight in the bin (this was way before his poorly tum)

That is interesting! Right next month I will def take him to the vet for his worming. Maybe the drontal did make him poorly before he came to us but I guess with 10 puppies it would have been hard to tell whose poo was whose?!
