Not sure if this should be in here, but I know how much you must all love poo picking...

I have a bad back (slipped disc and sciatica) which makes poo picking difficult, as I'm not meant to bend over at all. In the past I have always just bent over and picked it up by hand, but I really should stop doing that now! I can do it by squatting down, but it would take ages and my legs would ache like crazy!

I was thinking of using one of those Stable Mate scoop/rake thingies but they are too small - as in I'd still have to bend over! Does anyone know if you can buy long handled versions of these? if so where can I get one?

Or does anyone have any other ingenious ideas for tools I could use, or ways that I could do it to avoid bending over? I don't mind looking silly as long as it doesn't hurt!

All ideas very greatefully received!

Thanks x

The tescos direct ones I just bought have an adjustable handle, which for me makes it perfectly tall enough. They have 3 different heights which is very useful

Have you tried a shavings fork. Its what I use for doing our fields. Its great for the solid poos and then I can use it as a rake for the ones the crows have messed about with. AND no bending.

hi, me and sis used to use the pooper scoop thing but have ditched that in favour of shavings fork, much much easier to get the poo up.

If you have a really bad back TBH I would just use gloves into a skip and then chuck that in the wheel barrow. You can then get down onto your knees to pick the poo up.
I have a very bad back and if I were poo picking that is what I would do....

Use rubber gloves, bucket and wheelbarrow, but interested to see replies for shavings fork. Might have to give it a try (on shorter grass anyway)

ooo thanks for all the suggestions - will dig out my shavings fork and give that a go at the weekend as I used to muck out on shavings with it and it didn't hurt my back. If that doesn't work I'll investigate the long handled scoop and rake thingies.

Shavings Fork every time. metal springy fork (not the thick metal ones on a wooden handle) with the lightweight metal handle.

Makes life easy i promise you!
