Going showing soon and need to leave at 6;30 am (when yard opens). Will bath night before but he has poo all over his hocks and stifle- right where rugs don't cover:mad:. Help needed asap please! :)

Naff stain remover is brilliant. You can either spray it on and wipe off, or I put some on a sponge and then scrub. Make sure the rest of the horse is clean though, or you will end up with sparkling hocks and dirty looking legs! I also put mane & tail spray on hocks and knees the night before. It doesn't solve all my problems, but it does help.

Miracle Groom Bath in a Bottle! It's amazing stuff and I couldn't have lived without it with my filthy coloured! You just spray it on and wipe it or sponge it off (damp sponging it off works better)

Ah I know this pain! I have a bag of gear just for cleaning now, as I did some showing last year. If the rest is clean then it's not too bad just doing those last spots on the day. Poobalds are a pain but they scrub up nicely!

Another tip - If on a shavings bed, add some extra fresh shavings on top of the bed where he is likely to poo/lie down - without mixing. I find this helps keep my grey a little cleaner overnight.

^^^ stencilface I have just nearly choked on my coffee! Best advice ever (yes I am I grey owner and yes never again).

I have found the cow boy magic actually does work really well but in an emergency, when my gelding has had the runs on the lorry and insisted on backing up against the wall of the lorry and wiping his bum and back legs in, nothing beats baby wipes and white/grey spray make-up (I think I got it from horse health). I also make sure he has his tail chalked so I can brush it out in the morning (put in as a paste as someone mentioned above). Just watch how often you chalk as it can make the hair brittle and cause more breakage. He gets pure argan oil in to try and make up for it!

Sell the grey and get a dark one ;-)

Oh I do feel your pain - the last 6 ponies and horses I have owned have been greys or palominos and we show! - we now own a liver chestnut LOL.

Get the problem areas as white as possible and spray liberally with show sheen or similar and pop up later and skip out!

Agree spray paint him bay. I used to use various quick cleaners but if really really stubborn discovered that washing up liquid seemed to be the only answer. Also possibly bandage back legs over night with the padding underneath going up high may help keep them clean although grey horses know how to poo everywhere. Fortunately my grey had fairly dark legs and dark hocks but could always managed to get a poo stain that wasn't visible in the stable light and only discovered in the day light when unloaded at show. Have a good show.

6  I thought I was a fool as 3 out of the 4 I have owned have been grey, including one absolute mud monster. I am never having another. With 6 you really are a glutton for punishment!
