Hello,

My rising 6YO coloured has a very dirty bottom and back legs. He is fed Balanced Horse Feeds Riding Horse Mix I 1/2 scoop 2 times a day and 1 scoop chaff with it and pink powder. He is fed hayledge and also turned out during the day.
All his poos has solid in the stable and he get a little runny out hacking, but nothing awful. Its basically when he farts liquid poo comes out and dribbles down his legs.
Is there anything I can give him to make has tummy a little happier, and maybe give his back legs a chance of staying whiteish?!

'Carob kibble' or 'locust bean' is great for runny poos. You can buy a 5 day carob powder to overcome digestive problems via Valley Feeds (they sell on ebay also). It's a brilliant feed - had 2 of mine on it this winter (no sugar and no starch, but naturally sweet and fibrous).

Our 2 get loose occassionaly. Mick was particularly bad when we first got him, sis was out hacking with friends, he farted, projectile liquid narrowly missed the girl riding behind :p

Our vet told us to put a half carton (one of the large ones, 500ml i think) of natural yoghurt in their feed for a week. Really does work and its cheap as chips (we use Asda's own bog standard one)

I have this at the moment as well. Slightly different as he has the cow-pat poos out in the field, but no runny poo comes out when he farts. Very annoying as he's a white horse and it's so visible all over his bottom and back of his legs and in his tail.
Every morning and evening I'm in the stable getting the muck off so that it doesn't attract flies.

I've been looking it up online and I've heard that it's most common when moving fields (which we've just done about a week ago)
It doesn't sound like there's too much to worry about if I'm honest. People have been recommending Pink Powder, Yea-sacc or various other pre/pro-biotics, but I don't think I'll start with one of those unless it starts affected his condition and health.
Mine is currently on Biotin, seaweed, garlic and carrots mixed in with his good-doer's chaff.

Haylage Balancer from NAF. It's fab. My mare becomes quite loose on Spring grass, and can't eat haylage because it makes her very loose.
Naf recommended this stuff over Pink Powder - we now have perfect pony poo's, instead of cow pats.
