Ok, bit of a discussion tonight going on elsewhere about pooh-picking & how much people scoop up from fields/paddocks daily/weekly etc.
However, lots of different barrows being used to do it tho :)

What sort do you use?

Have selected 3, so pick the nearest to the type you use regularly.

We use the builders type barrow but to be honest some of the poos that go in it are so big I'm sure the damn things can be seen from space :eek: :p Just one can fill the scoop thingy so you don't get many to a barrow :D
 
I clicked that I have staff....

In realality....... I use two builders barrows and whilst i'm filling them I get my non-horsey OH or best friend to empty them whist I fill the next one!

It works pretty well and saves me ages walking to the muck heap (which is up a huge muddy hill) :p
 
I keep a builder's barrow and poop scoops in the fields specifically for this really fun job.

I worked on a yard last year where they insisted on poo picking being done every day, their fields were on a slope and they had one of the really big yard barrows..they also expected me to go out in all conditions and do this, even deep snow. The consequence of manhandling a full, heavy large barrow over snow and ice is that I damaged the tendons in one of my hands ('trigger finger' injury) so having discussed their health and safety policies with them we parted company and I wouldn't do that again
 
Builder barrow but my dream is to have a poo hoover one day!

At Basil's yard we have a daily rota with his field mate's owners in spring/summer when he and his friend live out 24/7, in winter we do every other weekend

At the farm where my mare lives they're turned out in such a large area during winter it would be impossible to do it, we do the areas by the gates and water and when the pony is in his pen and the mare and her friend are in a smaller field (but still pretty large!) during spring/summer he gets done daily.
 
I ticked stable barrow, but we only have a builders barrow! I only poo pick the restricted turnout fields, not the main field. Main field has 3 horses on, is 5 acres, hilly and muddy in places. It gets harrowed in spring. I tried my best this summer to poo pick the toilet areas in the field, but total field is 12 acres with 5 horses so its not likely I'll have got everything! :D

In the summer I use a 4x4 with trailer ;)
 
Poo pick daily

Have 2 neds and I just use the poop scoop! Little one does usually 4-6 a day and big one does 3-4. Just 2 poop scoops a day!

Leave my barrow outside and just empty it weekly
 
We dont poo pick because we have enough land to move horses on as and when... the fields are then harrowed and poohs and broken up into tny pieces.

The skinny types move first, their field is chain harrowed and then the fatties move onto the pre grazed paddock, and this pattern works untill all fields are used. Takes about a year to get round all the paddocks... we have 9 horses on the yard and 26 acres.
We have had worm counts done and none have been above a 'low risk' count
 
I don't poo pick fields, we horrow, cross graze with cattle and sheep and rest/rotate.

However, when my ponies are paddocked for waist-line reasons, I will poo-pick. I don't use a barrow, though, I fertilize the briars instead!

I got the same injury working at the zoo, handling a barrow daily. I now get it back every winter as soon as I start using a wheelbarrow. Its a bloody nightmare isnt it!
 
I'm very lucky, my current yard owner picks the poo when just after the 2 horses move into a new field in a poo hoover thingy on her tractor :) :)
 
My fields are poo picked daily and it's mainly by builders barrow but I have a large barrow that I sometimes use in the summer. I picked A as that is the barrow down the field, but I should also have ticked C and D too as I have a groom and sometimes use the big barrow :)
