Lunging today and asked for canter, he got a bit excited and tripped and fell over. He got straight back up, literally it all happened in less than 10 seconds. Whipped all his boots off (didn't have saddle on) and checked him over and no injuries. Got YM to watch us do a couple of circles on each rein and he's not lame at all. Just worrying really, hoping he won't be stiff. He was not bothered at all by it and gave him another thorough check over in the stable. Just scared me to death.

My boy has done this, he's a youngster (well 5) and quite unbalanced on the right rein in particular, I was loose schooling him one day in the winter in the indoor school, and he took the corner too fast and....well you guessed it, he was absolutely fine and next time took the corner nice and steady! :)

My lad did this, never seen a horse look so embarrassed! Mind you he was 15 at the time, just being a bit of a prat. Mine didn't stiffen up or go lame hope yours is the same.

I was turning the corner once after a fence and we must have hit some deep sand as all of a sudden the horse went head of heels and I was very fortunately catapulted out of the way.

Horse got back up I hopped back on and we continued jumping.

I think sometimes they are sturdier than we give them credit for. If your worries tomorrow before you ride pop him in the lunge with no gadgets and just see if he's moving freely and happily.

I'm definitely going to lunge tomorrow, we're meant to be having our first jumping lesson and obviously unless he's entirely happy and no signs of any discomfort I won't even entertain doing the lesson! X x x

A little update, got my boy in this morning. He wasn't stiff or sore at all, was being a total knobber in the stable so took him to lunge for 10 mins to check he was moving freely and get it out of his system and proceeded to have an amazing lesson. The boy didn't put a foot wrong and I'm on top of the world! X x

I really wouldn't worry at all. I've known plenty fall over. A couple loose schooling (one in the snow) when being pillocks, a couple in the fields, a couple ridden with friends and 2 ridden with me. All fine. One even did a somersault, catapulted me off face first into the sand and ended up facing the way we had come. He was fine too.

They're sturdier than they make out :p All tend to just look embarrassed and slightly acusatory, as if it's your fault they are too daft to stay upright.
