I did think she looked like something was wrong, you know when they look "guilty"? Apart from that she was fine though.

Got home and she lay down by the couch for a bit before getting up to move somewhere else and I noticed there was blood on the carpet so I called her back and started going over her to find where she was bleeding from.

She'd taken about a centimeter of skin off her nearside hind just above her ankle joint :(

It wasn't bleeding heavily so my OH kindly played vet and bathed it in lukewarm salt water and she was an angel about it and we popped a bit of sudocreme on it.

It stopped bleeding after a while and just had sebum coming out of it but now she's finding it a bit stingy (understandably) and doesn't want to put full weight on it. I've given her a dose of metacalm (sp?) doggy painkiller for now and if she's no better tomorrow mum will take her to the vets.

Do you think it should heal up by itself ok? Still no idea how she did it

Just keep an eye on it and repeat the salt water (cooled boiled water). I'd lay off the sudocreme cos it'll probably heal quicker if left open to the air.

Thanks CT, I was wondering today if I should salt water her again or not.
It's dried up now and there is no more sebum weeping out of it. She's still sore but she's putting weight on it too so that's good :)

Just monitor if it's scabbed over already. :) It'll be lymph fluid that was leaking, not sebum. Sebum's an oily stuff, causes blackheads etc.

Hee hee oops! thanks! :)
It's not scabbed over it's just dried out and she's stopped licking at it - tried to keep an eye on her last night so she wasn't constantly worrying it

My sister's dog is always taking bits out of his legs. (I swear, you'd think we mistreat him.) He runs so fast he sometimes catches himself. His war wounds usually heal up just fine.
