Well i have posted a few times with my dressage results and they have all been good, so thought it only fair to redress the balance and post about my worst ever test.

So i went to Croft top on Saturday to do N25, I always compete him in spurs but he has been getting sharper recently (he always is in winter) so i decided to warm him up without them. He warmed up really well and I was really hoping for a good test. He was a little slow off the leg in transitions and because the test has lots in it i decided to put the spurs on well it all went down hill from there i went in and it was my the worst test of my life he was tense and was running through my hand. At one point i had to bring him back to halt from canter because he wouldn’t have made the corner at that speed it was horrible.

We ended up with 58% which i though was generous however the winner was only 64% and there were at least 8 people behind me so god knows what they did wrong.

I can’t believe it all went so wrong he got 74% in his last Novice and i am worried now because i have 2 championships coming up.

Why didn’t i just trust myself and leave the spurs off??? I am so annoyed with myself.

Sorry pointless post

Don't worry about it too much, everyone has an off day!

Play it by ear with the spurs and decide on the day. If you are finding standard spurs too much but no spurs too little, he might like the impulse spurs with the rubber balls.

Thanks. Never thought of changing the spurs dooh..... good thinking.

He he you should have been at my last (first) novice test we got 53% and I had to shout will you trot (it was unaffiliated and yes we got marked down twice lol)..

8 people behind you well thats good sounds like a very strict judge

58% is my best score at novice so far! Howvere i do have a very tense horse at parties---think "coiled spring" and 16.3hh making herself as long as a 12.2hh! We are getting there though. You next one will go better for sure

The judge wrote " could be ridden with a more sympathetic hand" if she wanted us to stay in the arena then i think keeping hold of the sod was definitely the correct thing to do. If i had let go of his head his back end would have gone vertical, god knows what marks i would have got if that had happened lol.

As MG - probably just a very strict judge. Well done you for positive riding in the face of extreme adversity!

Thanks but it really was a bad test...

We did however get a half decent medium trot which is something he struggles with. So it wasn’t all bad, just 90% of it.
