Poor Flick (warning, slightly gruesome photo!)

I had to rush Flick to the vets tonight - I've no idea how she did it, but I left the dogs inside as usual whilst I lunged Bob, went to get them for their walk before feeding them and Flick had got a chunk out of the top of her head :eek::eek: Took one look and thought it needed stitches, it looked at first glance like a small flap of skin but it was quite deep :(

So dashed up to the vets, refused to leave her there and waited around in sunny Ledbury whilst they gave her a general and stitched her up - apparently the wound went quite far back under the skin from the original entry place :( So this is what she looks like now:

She didnt fancy any tea when we got home so she is sleeping next to me at the moment - guess who will be sleeping on my bed tonight too :p Luckily I dont have to be at work til 11am tomorrow so can make sure she is OK before I go, then can leave her seperately from the other two.

Lots of 'get well soon' hugs for Flick please :(

Thats exactly what I thought, especially when the vet said the wound went on a bit further under the skin? But I am looking around now and just cannot see anything it might have been, I am so confused :confused::confused:

I know, doesnt take much...:p
 
PS - the vet said she was coming round nicely from the anaesthetic but she is now fast asleep with her mouth open on my knee? I suppose that is normal when she has just had a general, but I am worrying slightly :(

Mind you I am so paranoid that when they were so long stitching her I was convinced they had lost her under the anaesthetic :o:o:o
 
Ime they always zonk out when they get home. I have known mine jump in the back of the car on leaving the vets, but then they get home and sleep for the next 12 hours, I wouldn't worry about her, just keep her warm and quiet.
 
Thanks so much MM, I was going to ring my mum for reassurance but then noticed the time, I knew someone on here would be able to set my mind at rest :)

I might well not go into work tomorrow, I'll see what she is like in the morning....hmmm, boss will love me for that one :o
 
I think a nice nights sleep will sort her, bet she will want feeding in the morning. Could she have stick her head under something, then got stuck? Does she mooch where she shouldn't?
I dred to think what they get up to when we arn't around.x
 
Oh yes, she goes where she shouldnt do all the time Minmax :D Ah well, will keep looking out for possible damage-causing things...

Ahhhh just noticed they have clipped her claws under the anaesthetic, well they did need doing, bet they charge me for that too :D If it hadnt been out of hours I'd have got them to do her teeth too :rolleyes:
 
Have you got any tables etc with square legs - just wondering if she may have run into the edge of something?

Or anything with a nail tip poking out underneath?

Flick update: she woke me at 2am when the anaesthetic wore off, complaining that (a) she needed to go out and (b) it hurt :o She is still saying it hurts, and I think I'll go back to the vets for a collar for her because she keeps rubbing her head :confused: Dim dog! But she was very happy to have some breakfast this morning :)

I have come to the conclusion that she went underneath a garden chair which was indoors because of the rain, it is the only thing I could see which had remotely sharp edges etc, goodness knows how she banged her head on it like that :confused: Said chair is now firmly moved... talk about shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted!
 
Youch! Sorry only just seen this - poor Flick, looks very sore. I've had my head stitched and it's not nice so gentle hugs from me :(

Glad to hear she's brighter this morning :) bet she's got one hell of a headache though :eek:
