To be fair, some vets are upping their game in the face of specialist competition from EDT's, but there are many who have only done a few basic mouths during vet training and have the luxury of being able to sedate and work at their leisure.
Horse dentistry is a science of its own and not just about taking points off teeth.
I'd be more than happy with my vet doing mine. He is a star with the horses and constantly travelling around to gain more knowledge first hand and through courses. He's one of the top vets in the country and will still question himself throughout and stop if he thinks someone else is more specialised or he isn't sure on something.
