I'm feeling very sad for my little girl at the moment.
As most of you know, josie was my 'pot luck' pony who found me rather than the other way around. I've never really known anything about her past, only that she has been driven and HATES men with a passion.
The dealer I bought her from comes down to our yard all the time, and Josie always pins her ears flat back, if he dares to step near her, she will bite him and REALLY bite him. She's never bitten me, ever.
When I first got her no one could get on her, she would litterally throw herself around until you hit the floor, except for me. I was 'allowed' to lean over then finally get on board. Infact she's always been very safe for me and I've never really understood it.
Now I do
.
I was talking to the dealers little girl at the weekend, and she said 'oh we had Josie for a bit didn't we?' I said 'yes for a couple of days, then your Dad brought her here' she then said 'oh she hates Dad she bites him, but I'm not surprised' ofcourse I questionned this 'oh, she said, well she wouldn't let him get on her when we were trying to break her, so Dad picked up a branch and BASHED HER OVER THE HEAD with it until she calmed down!!!!!'
I was delvestated, but everything falls into place now.
If you ride with a whip, you have to be so careful changing hands or she'll just bolt. If you go to pat her too far up her neck, again she'll just bolt, and of course the whole issue with her being backed and broken. Poor poor girl. But hey I guess at least it shows the trust she has in me.
The other very sad thing is this girl of about 6/7 thinks this is the normal way to treat horses, God help any that ever end up in her 'care'
