I'm feeling very sad for my little girl at the moment.

As most of you know, josie was my 'pot luck' pony who found me rather than the other way around. I've never really known anything about her past, only that she has been driven and HATES men with a passion.

The dealer I bought her from comes down to our yard all the time, and Josie always pins her ears flat back, if he dares to step near her, she will bite him and REALLY bite him. She's never bitten me, ever.

When I first got her no one could get on her, she would litterally throw herself around until you hit the floor, except for me. I was 'allowed' to lean over then finally get on board. Infact she's always been very safe for me and I've never really understood it.

Now I do

.

I was talking to the dealers little girl at the weekend, and she said 'oh we had Josie for a bit didn't we?' I said 'yes for a couple of days, then your Dad brought her here' she then said 'oh she hates Dad she bites him, but I'm not surprised' ofcourse I questionned this 'oh, she said, well she wouldn't let him get on her when we were trying to break her, so Dad picked up a branch and BASHED HER OVER THE HEAD with it until she calmed down!!!!!'

I was delvestated, but everything falls into place now.

If you ride with a whip, you have to be so careful changing hands or she'll just bolt. If you go to pat her too far up her neck, again she'll just bolt, and of course the whole issue with her being backed and broken. Poor poor girl. But hey I guess at least it shows the trust she has in me.

The other very sad thing is this girl of about 6/7 thinks this is the normal way to treat horses, God help any that ever end up in her 'care'

Tragic.

Poor mare.

But she found you.

Feeling very emotional today - and this has started me off all over again............

How awful. But on the bright side well done you for perservering with her, and her letting herself trust someone again.

Hb x

Oh bless her - that really does explain so much. What a terrible, terrible start for her.

But like you say she trusts you and that is an amazing achievement and I think that the progress the two of you have made together is not only commendable but a true example of horsemanship and the relationship that Im sure most horse owners aspire to having.

She is incredibly lucky to have found you and I think you have a fantastic future ahead of you

That's so sad to hear.

At least now you understand why she's the way she is, you will hopefully be better armed at how to deal with her mental scars.

Poor Josie. Give her a carrot and a cuddle from Aunty Patches xx

You're not another HHO member who's caught the bug going around....the one that lasts 9 months? Teary emotional wreck is a sign you know!

OMG please give her the biggest girly hug from me - I am just dumbfounded that people treat horses, or any animal in this way - you might get your own way but you will never ever have that animals trust

Oops sorry x everytime I think about what that man did to my poor gilr I well up.

I have had a stuborn actually down right nasty horse before, I still would never have whacked it over the head. Josie is in no way any of those things. She's the sweetest mare I've ever known. But very very defensive, now I know why xx

Thankyou Jen x

I hace always thought she has given me so much more than I could ever give her. I was a nervous wreck when I bought her, what I was thinking of I do not know! But it looks like we've given each other more than we'll ever really know. My true horse of a lifetime! x

It would make cry to find something like that out.

Doesn't really compare but I always wondered why Tina (my uncles lab who thinks I'm her mummy) was very very nervous of men, (not of my uncle) thought it was down to her being blind on left side and people approaching her there. Found out a few weeks ago (dog is now 7) that uncles window cleaner beat the sh*t out of her as a puppy. It really upsets me to think about that happening to her, she is the most sweetest good natured dog you'd meet and yet he done that to her. Thankfully that guy left before my uncle found out (his parents in law told him) or he would probably be serving time for giving the guy what he deserved.

i am completey lost for words! i hate how some poepe treat animals! shes very lucky to have found you! give her a kiss and carrot from me! xx

they say children never tell lies. Bet this man was really embarrased when his daughter said this. Trouble is this will stay with your pony for the rest of its life... Lucky pony has an owner like you, yes funny how ponies once they trust you they will do almost anything for you....

Just goes to show how much she trusts you Lenny and I hope that does make you feel warm inside

Poor girlie has obv realised you mean her no harm after such a horrible start in life.

I've always got a bit cross with her doing her ears back flard nostril thing. I'm never gonna get cross at her again. She has every right to be wary of strangers.

Poor Josie. But you should feel happy that she is with you now, she obviously trusts you and with all that has happened to her in her past it is nice she has you.
