As a direct quoted result of that wretched journalist...and yet again, the doyen of journalistic excellence, the Daily Mail...saying that the dog who attacked the child was a Stafford bull terrier TYPE...Not actually a Stafford but TYPE

Stafford Welfare had a further 10 dogs chucked at them yesterday. Welfare do not take on crosses, some of the dogs are not show standard but are staffords. No dog had any history or suspicion of attacking children, visiting or not.

Not liking the breed as they are not what you want from a dog....fair enough. Blaming the poor breed for every attack and wrong doing...not acceptable.

Please keep spreading the word guys. It is good to be on a forum where people actually do apply common sense and not listen to media hysterics.

Well said. I read yesterday it was an EBT that carried out the attack. So not a staffy at all. I'm sick of the media staffy bashing and making out they are all aggressive! Unfortunately for staffys the wrong sort of owners have destroyed their reputation. Anything a staffy does is sensationalised by the media and even when a staffy isn't responsible, they will insinuate they are by using the staffy type dog line.

Personally I would be more than happy to pay for a licence for my dogs if it stops idiots owing dogs full stop. Especially the ones who think it is hard and cool to have a staffy and teach it to act aggressively. These sort of people shouldn't be allowed to own a goldfish!

We have 2 Staffies in our village, both rescue and are delightful obedient dogs. The difference with these dogs they are owned by responsible people with brains.
I read the DM article this morning and couldnt believe the rubbish I was reading 95% fiction with 5% fact.

What a toddler was doing wandering around unsupervised is beyond me, if there was a pond in the garden he could have fallen in and drowned or been picked up by a scumbag.

I think it is so sad that good natured Staffies are being handed in on the back of this and I dont know the answer to how to turn this around.

I have heard of Staffies being dog aggressive which I put down to lack of early socialisation and being owned by idiots. Its such a shame that they are the breed of choice for these morons.

Some of the idiots even encourage them to be aggressive. Our rescue staffy spent first 7 months of his life not being socialised. He is not dog aggressive but he does find other
dogs very exciting. He is great with my other 3 dogs and is getting better at being calm when meeting new dogs. He has been snapped at by strange dogs but never reacted back. But I'm sure if we encouraged his excitement towards others dogs it could easily lead to something worse, the same as with most dogs I imagine.

See, it really cheers me up when I read that someone sensible understands staffords. You don't have to be a fan but being rational is a breath of fresh air. Rescue is seeing more and more Pitbull types now with owners trying to palm them off or massively stupid crosses. Simce when does crossing a bull mastiff with a Stafford make it a SBT? In fact I hesitate to say Pitbull as this does see to refer in the UK to a type whereas there really is a breed. Just need to think of the lovely Daddy who, belonged to Cesar Milan and what a great dog he was.

Ours is some sort of cross as he is way too big for a staffy. Weighs almost 4 stone and not far off height of my small dobie bitch. Not entirely sure what he is x'd with. Daddy was a lovely dog. I used to love watching him on the tv :) I have friends in America who have pitbulls and again they are super dogs. This breed specific legislation nonsense really gets to me.
