We live close to RAF Fairford which has a big air show this weekend- Today is a corporate day then Saturday/Sunday are the two big days open to the public. Its always a bit of a nightmare as traffic is horrendeous, people come and park in our gateways and verges to watch planes. I never really cared. We got a pretty good show from the garden (not that I'm a plane fan but some of it is pretty  )
Problem is and this started last year totally out of the blue as we are used to low flying aircraft but Cecil is terrified of the really loud ones. Its odd because he has lived his whole life here, although some today have sounded like they were about to take the house out, He's generally happy wih loud noises, fireworks, guns etc.
This really worries him and its a long few days to be panicky. He's asleep at the minute, until the next one flies over.
I feel so bad for him. At least fireworks or general loud things don't generally last 3 days 😥

I can sympathise with you, our previous dog hated loud noises but we're very lucky with our present dog in that she'll sit on the edge of thebed with me watching the displays.

Its just bizarre. I can pin point last year, all fine until one particularly loud fast one came over and i think I jumped out of my skin so maybe I accidentally scared him  Since then he has reacted to them. Luckily it seems to have finished for the daywhich seems early.

Seems you’re lucky with the fireworks!
in many places it’s October Half Term, through Halloween, through Guy Fawkes - a full season! Off again all over Christmas and New Year.... quite what that’s about, little baby sleeping in a manger, just blast off mega explosives, why doncha.....
do you think his general hearing is weaker, and the big noises just sound a lot louder in contrast?
My father went rather deaf, in a semi-quiet world until any significant noise would give him a real shock.

It seems to be things in the sky that bother him. I take him shooting so that’s pretty sudden and loud but he’s been around it since a puppy, obviously he’s no gun dog but I took him to be around other dogs and people and my partner was involved.
He’s always been funny about stuff above, as in he will try and jump at swooping red kites! 😬
His hearing seems ok, but it’s definitely one to bear in mind. I’ll keep an eye. He does jump out of sleep at sudden things

You’re right re the fireworks. Sorry!
I’m very lucky where we are. There are a few organised displays but we don’t have the private parties etc like I read about in fb in bigger towns which seem to go in every night for weeks on end

Poor Cecil! I hope he is doing okay.

We're staying with family also nearish the air show. The really loud jets are certainly catching Ivy's attention but she doesn't seem frightened. A hot air balloon absolutely miles away the other day, was another matter...
