The vet has just been out to give J a check over and make sure everything was OK after the kidney infection, she also had a look to see if Welly had 2 testicles, which he doesn't. I then got her to have a look at Teal as he just hasn't improved, he still looks the same as he did when he arrived (poor) isn't putting on weight and is coughing more each week. She had a listen to his lung, and said he had really odd noises on one side, he was coughing more than normal, and she ruled out dust allergy as she said the cough wasn't that sort. Put him in the menage for a run around and he just looked so quiet, Welly was charging around like mad and Teal just cantered quietly behind him. He just isn't right

Vet is loathed to start investigating as he is supposed to be a cheap project pony, but he is slowly deteriorating so we will have to do something. She is going away to have a think, but she said her hunch was it was something congenital (sp)

Don't know what we are going to do, poor pony just looks so dull, any advice appreciated

Awww no. The poor little thing, how awful. I have no advice as you have the vet and doing what I would be.

I hope he turns out ok, keep us posted xx

It is such a shame as he is the nicest pony and would make some child very happy, but think at the moment the most we can hope for is that he stays as he is and I keep him as a companion. There is no way he will ever be sold now! But if he is only going to get worse....

Yes you have to be fair for his quality of life if he's only going to get worse and worse.

Is there really no hope that he will pick up?
So sad, he is such a sweetheart

I don't know, I get the impression from the vet that she thinks it is a deformity somewhere that is causing problems, she said if this is the case then it is likely to get worse, he used to cough once a week ish, now he coughs everyday and just looks poor. He should be a playful 2 yr old, but he looks more like an ancient old pony

I cna certainly appreciate the financial side having had a similar (although leg related) but it sounds like it is having a detrimental effect on his health, at which stage I think you just accept it as a risk of projects and work on getting him better.

Are you sure he doesn't have pnuenomia (sp??) Personally I would ask the vet to get on and start treating as (actually) a matter of urgency.......

Sounds supicioulsy to me like you vet thinks she might no what is up but wants to check with a colllegue first.

If sh'e snot got back to you soon then I'd ring and chase up. Poor little thing although just being quiet in itself doesn't sound too horrific.

Fingers crossed for the poor mite.

Vet is on it, the cough isnt anything like a cold type cough, and he has no trouble exhaling, just doesnt seem to get enough air in. Then there is this noise on one side of the lungs which is unlike anything vet has heard before. She is treating it as urgent, just doesnt want to start huge amounts of diagnostic work until she has decided which way to go.

How old is he ??? My vet would take a blood test,he might be anaemic(or how you spell it) and a boost of Vitamin B will sort that out and also give him a dose of Antbiotics...Hope that he is feeling better soon.............Yes finances is always a worry but like somebody said its quality of life and if he is a project pony he will never show his full potential if he is poorly....
