My inlaws springer is now 14. He has been a 'difficult' dog for them, but loved all the same. It is now very nearly the end, yet my inlaws are keeping him hanging on. His back legs don't work well, he looses his balance, and is more or less sleeping the entire time. He is stone deaf, doesn't have control of his bladder, but does eat and poo ok. His coat is very dull and matted, and he has various lumps all over. He stinks to high heaven, but he can't be bathed as he turns nasty (pain from lumps I reckon).
My OH wants to wait for them to phone, to allow him/us time to go down and say goodbye. I am kinda hoping he just falls asleep. He has currently been taken to Devon, so that 85 year old nan can say farewell. Thats about a 2 hour trip, and part of me thinks its unfair on the dog.
