Poor Pippa the pony, went to check on her and was a bit confused as to why she was standing on her own and not with the others and she didn't come to the gate like she usually does. Got closer and realised she'd somehow got her near hind foot in a roll of fencing wire. She'd moved halfway down the field with it dragging out behind her and it getting tighter and tighter on her leg. Don't ask me where it came from, I have no idea, definately wasn't anywhere near the field yesterday and there were no fences down. The only thing I can think of is that the wind (which is blowing trees down it's that strong today) picked it up and plopped it down in the field
Managed to get it off her with some wire cutters, it hadn't broken the skin thank god but the end had wrapped around itself and I couldn't unbend it enough to get it off with out possibly hurting her. Took her in to her stable and checked her leg, there is a bit of a rub mark and some small patches of hair that have rubbed short but no broken skin or puncture wounds. She wasn't in shock and once it was off she was back to her normal happy self, whickering at me for treats.
Poor girl, glad we check on the horses regularly or that could have gone really badly for her. She's staying in tonight and the YO is going to keep an eye on her, feed her and put some antisceptic stuff on her leg just in case but I felt so bad for her when I saw what had happened.
Just goes to show that even if you keep your fields clean and free of debris you should still check regularly!
