I have a pet shop and a lady came in asking what to do about a shetland with sweet itch. I suggested she get a Boett rug as I think they are really good and you don't have to keep using chemicals on the pony and in the long run could work out cheaper.

Anyway she kept saying its only a shetland as if it didn't deserve the care a bigger equine would get.

I think all horses should get the same basic care, be they a companion pony, a grand national winner, dressage horse etc, etc.
I was actually quite upset by this lady's attitude.

That's a horrible thing to say! I am with you on the fact that they should all be treated the same, its almost like....racisim (sp?) but in the horse world, and not over colour lol! I suppose like upper class, middle class and working class. Poor pony

I agree with you, all animals should be treated with the same respect, dignity and care, whether they are large or small.

Just because the pony was a shetland, doesn't mean it will suffer any less than anyother horse/pony.

That sort of attitude is shocking and people like that do not deserve to have animals.

Agree - our shettie gets exactly the same care and attention as the other 2 do...we will have to sell her probably next year as she will be massively outgrown by then, and working full time I won't be able to manage 4 beasties- i wish I could- I'm determined to find her a brilliant home, I think the problem with selling on small shetties is people do think they don't really need looking after ...
