Well what a day!
I got up and went to work this morning, settled down at my computer with my cup of tea when the receptionist puts a call through to me, Its my mom really upset, my first thought were of my granparents but alas no its Rolo.
My mom had gone down the yard this morning only to find him lying down in the field not looking too happy at all, mom tried to get him up but he just wouldnt stand, mom noticed he had blood on his neck and back legs *panic set in at this point*
My mom managed to get hold of the Yard manager on her mobile and the pair of them attempted to get him up, it took 1 hour and 15 mins to get him to his feet. It took a further 45 mins to get him on to the yard from the field as Rolo was on 3 legs.
His back leg was cut at the fetlock with scratches all up the inside of the limb and he had two deep puncture wounds on the hock which was really hot and swollen.
At this point i left work and rushed down the yard.
Anyway by the time i got there the vet was with my mom examining him.
The scratches are superficial and the cut at the fetlock seems ok as long as we can keep it clean.
The puncture wounds are alittle worrying but were more concerned about his hock which to be honest looks deformed!, hes not putting much weight on the leg and when he walks he actually groans (really upsetting)
Oh and hes pulled his front shoe off too?
Anyway hes been sedated, cleaned up and we have been advised to give him 2 bute a day for 10 days, rested completely in a very small paddock for 7 days and if the swelling has not gone or hes still refusing to move properly in 3 days he will have to go to the equine hospital to double check there is no bone damage etc [:-(][:-(]
Anyway heres the pictures of the poor boy.
Some of the blood on his neck? but wheres the cut (i know its not alot but we washed alot of by the time i took pictures)
Deformed Swollen Hock with puncture wounds
Swelling begining to spread
Scratches inside leg?
cut under fetlock
All Equals a unhappy Boy (hes never grumpy so we known he is hurting)
Actually starting to graze (painkillers kicking in)
We dont know how he has managed it but its obvious hes been in the wire during the night.
Anyway i went and checked the fences (all fine) and went and checked on my other boys.
Can you spot my other two?? Wheres Marley & Indiana?
Well theres my Indi
And theres Fat Marly Pants leading the herd off (Hes so not social)
So i went back to Indiana he loves to pose!
So went and gave him a fuss only to discover that Indi has thrown a front shoe too!!!!! god damned horses the pair of them have only been done for 3 weeks!!!!!
And then to top my day i walked back up to Rolo and climbed over the electric fence not thinking it was on................"click" i get electrocuted on my foof!!! [:O][:r]
